If you had 50k and the softop is not an issue in that you could take or leave a convertable, which car would you choose. A well specced Boxster s or a Cayman s. I was just thinking to myself what I would do and my heart says a Cayman because ive had a 987s and the cayman is regarded as the best handling car in its class and above for that matter, but my brain says whats the point, may as well spec the boxster well and its probably only marginally inferior to a cayman handling wise and most will not even explore the difference. (im only talking new and no other cars).

Get a test drive booked back to back with both the 3.4s on the same route... The bhp; engine size; 0-60, etc are all the same... Think, it is now down to personal preference than any serious performance difference...

I have driven several Caymans and just sold my 3.2 987s and to be honest apart from the cayman being a tad sharper I cant see much of a difference. With the 3.4 i guess it will be zero diff. My heart says Cayman as I have had a boxster but apart from that I have no reason to choose one above a boxster and that really isnt a good enough reason. I know from experience that when you go back to a car you have had before it doesnt feel as special 2nd time around. I really fancy a white cayman with carrera sports on.

I've driven both and reckon 99.99% of drivers won't come close to exploiting the handling capabilities of the boxster, and even fewer would genuinely need the minisucle (IMO) improvement in the cayman - there is a slightly different feel, but when it comes to capability there really is very little in it. To me the soft top is a winner - especially on a day like today [:D]

But.......with 50K you could also buy a used:
997S
996 GT3
996 Turbo

I think you have answered your own questions. You have to go for the hatchback and on sunny days like today you can pinch yourself everytime you come across a topless Box [:D]

I am a big fan of the Boxster, but wouldnt the resell value be better on a Cayman, and if you drive it very hard i am sure you would notice a performance diffrence.

Also get one with a sunroof - not the same as having the top down but still nice.
