Well - just checking one of my favourite classic car sales sites in Sydney and completely missed this car for sale. Had to laugh at the 3.0ltr V8 description (if only [:D])

Guards Red 1989 Porsche 944 S2 - 17,828 kms @ $59,995.

At current exchange rates (1GBP:1.787AUD) the sale price = £33,568.......

It is in mint condition by the looks of it (and under offer) but that is a lot to pay for an S2!!!! But they did retail for $99kAUD when new back in the 80's/90's

In 1981 Walter Rohrl and Jurgen Barth finished 7th at Le mans at the wheel of a 2.5 litre, 4 cylinder, 16 valve Porsche. This front engined, rear wheel drive spent less time in the pits than any other competitor and ran the distance without missing a beat.
As a proving exercise it was splendidly well timed, two weeks later the road going Porsche 944 was officially unveiled.
In 1989 along came the S2, with its Turbo looks, 6.4sec 0-100 km/h time + 240 km/h top speed, and a revised transmission and gearing to better suit the 3.0 litre power plant.
The example we have for sale could be the best of its kind, big call, but it is that good! It has covered just 17,000 kms in its 21 years and has been maintained religiously in this time, with servicing and maintenance as it has been required. I could wax lyrical about the paint finish, the trim, the engine bay, the underside, etc"¦"¦, but I think if I just say it is "As New" I would not be telling a lie, unbelievably it even has the new car smell inside!!
Delivered new by Albion Car Centre, the official Porsche agent at the time in Southport Queensland, this car has led a sheltered life; we acquired the car from a Sydney collector and believe it will appeal to a new car buyer who wants something a little different to his or her friends, a Porsche collector or maybe the Porsche Factory Museum!
The S2 rates at number 36 in Jeremy Clarkson's top 100 cars and features in the film "Meet the Fockers", you have to be quick to spot it though! [FONT=verdana, geneva"]

There's been a couple of equivalent S2s sold here over the last few years. A 15K mile Baltic Blue for about £15K and a white one with ISTR about 23K for a bit less. What's the cost to ship to Aus, surely cheaper? [8|]

It costs about £4-5k to get a 944 from the UK to Sydney on the road (includes all shipping, insurance costs etc). So if you buy a good one here for £5-6k....you are still getting it on the road back there for $17-18kAUD. About the cost of a pretty old and run down Ford or Holden [:)]

She's a beauty !!!! defo concours contender ! Strange though, my S2 cam cover is not that nice silver colour, its a horrible pukey weird colour. Does anyone else have the odd colour S2 cam cover??

Cream-ish is the original finish colour.

Its not that long ago that you got AUS$3 for e

2 things - never seen a ventilier badge on an S2 before only Ss. Not inaccurate but were they an option?
One image definitely shows the car with a nose raised stance. Now my turbo has this, I assumed it was just suspension that needed proper setting up but perhaps not.
I still don't like it mind (the stance not the car!).

Patrick might be along to comment when he see's this thread. As our resident antipodean I think he's pointed out before the cost of Porkers down under is waaaay in excess what we expect to pay over here. I think it's a numbers thing, they are a lot rarer over there than here
