5K off

Was speaking to a sales guy at my local OPC who told me Porsche were offering 5K off the price of a new car? My head tells me to look for a mint pre owned, low mileage, high spec 997. I've always bought new and have had my current car (996 C2) for 8 years come January 09. Go with my head or Heart? Any thoughts or if you know of a better deal on a new car would be appreciated.

Don

The 5k is a additional part ex premium, paid to the OPC from Porsche GB - Its more an aid to support the dire part ex prices being offered, rather than a discount as such. I'm not sure its available as a discount if you don't part-ex. The offer has been running for about a month; it doesn't seem to be doing much for showroom traffic at my local OPC.

New or used ? - well you can wipe £10k off the price of your newcar when you drive it out of the showrrom, even with a 5k helping hand. Prices are still plummeting, loads of mint low milers around. Unless you really need that gen II car then the best buyers are 07/57 platers. Its frightening to see some of the auction prices currently :(

Hi Don,

I would say push hard, 2 months ago I bought a ex demo 4 month old C4S Cab with 4k on the clock and all the right toys for £22k off what it would have been list and got a decent PX (considering the climate) for my 55 plate C2S Coupe...

Another dealer couldnt even match the deal with the same spec car but a year older & 14k on it (probably because they had a cost in the car from a PX etc).

Dealers of all brands are loosing cash with cars in the showrooms as they are writing them down weekly with depreciation so better for them to move units (even at a loss) than risk loosing more via depreciation over 2-3 months (particularly this time of year).

Things are tough, deals are to be had for buyers and again, dont be shy to push back, walk away for a few days and let them chase you with a better deal.

Hope that helps

D.

Thanks for the interesting replies. My head tells me to wait till the new year for the best deal. I must say that some of the pre-owned 977's look very attractive [:D]. And I'd love a white one with full Areo-kit.[8|]

Hi Guys, interesting debate, but I beg to differ with the conclusion. The best deals will be at Christmas, and I mean that empty X-Mas week, as dealers struggle to hit their Q4 targets.

I think you'll find everyone thinks the situation will get better from January, trade and buyers alike. However there will be less over-supply as the impact of the factory closures reduces stocks, and dealer targets are for the first quarter which ends 31st March.

If it was me, I'd find a selection of possible cars like the helpful ad above, be flexible with my spec but not budget, and sit down with an OPC to find a couple of possible cars. Then as instructed walk away and wait to hear something better. There's also nothing like playing one against the other over the same or similar cars. Just because your local and/or favourite doesn't have the right new/used car doesn't mean he can't trade it from the competition, everyone is desperate for business right now.

Best of luck. Also, I'd spend about 45k on an 07 or 57 plate C2S or C4S with low mileage rather than buying anything new. 60k plus then buy a gen 2.

Enjoy !

The latest I have heard is that Porsche GB are giving the OPC an additional £3K support on the sale of a new car where there is a Porsche part-ex and that it is passed on as an overallowance on the p/ex. I have also heard that there is some margin to play with on Gen2's to further over-allow. On Gen1 new and unregistered cars expect a much bigger discount.

And, to be fair there are some great finance rates again now, like 6.9% APR on £45K+ amounts borrowed FROM INDEPENDENT FINANCIERS

This is more like the discounts Porsche should be thinking of [8D][:D][;)]

Hi Don, I have had a bit of a rocky path with the Gen II pricing and wasn't aware that the incentive was back on, I had a C2S order in for next March delivery then heard about the 5k incentive against dealer stock cars which had been running in oct and was due to run into Nov . I started going through the specs on available C2S parked out the back of uk dealers at the start of november then had a call from the dealership saying that Porsche GB had ended the incentive on GEN IIs but it was still running on Boxster/cayman/cayenne, to the Norwich Dealership's credit they did speak to Porsche and asked for a 48 hour extension to allow me to find a car which met my requirement, but due to family stuff had to walk away and then after thinking through the depreciation issue on new GEN IIs I pulled my order.
I have always considered a 997 TT out of my reach but looking around the opc used car site I noticed they had suffered a 10 to 15k drop over a couple of months. Just over a week ago I stepped into a year old, 4.5k top specced Turbo for 8 to10k less than a new C2S with the main toys. The car is as new and tremedous, sure it doesn't have the PDK but the Tiptronic is tried and tested plus it has the GT1/GT3 derived engine. There are several very good Turbo cars I looked at along my decided path both at Norwich and Leics opcs but also the independants have some excellent turbos, Top555 springs to mind. I don't think anyone can predict how prices will go into the new year but my own thoughts are people may be sticking with what they have for the moment and GOOD used car availability may dry up a bit in the near future, with less new cars heading out of the showrooms the nearly new GENIIs may be in short supply in the upcoming year.

Good luck some tough decisions out there on porsche car acquisitions.

Agree totally nobody can predict how prices will go but using current non goverment spun forecasts the future, as in 2009 and well into 2010, is extremely bleak and therefore it is fair to assume both new & used values will continue to go South and if many people are not buying new there are probably equal numbers not buying used too.

Personally I haven't bought a used Porsche in 30 years of owning them but today there is no way I would buy a new anything when you can get pre registered or used cars with a few hundred miles on them for £20-40k below list.

Even those "bargains" will continue to depreciate whilst the economic climate remains so unstable
