6 month service?

My 944 has been serviced at 6 monthly intervals since new. I understand that strictly only a 12 month service is required (subject to miles - I only do about 3k miles a year), but am tempted to continue with 6 monthly, even just to maintain the solid service record.

What are everyone's thoughts on whether a 6 monthly service is necessary, or even just an oil change. Don't want to be wasting my ££ unnecessarily but also want to keep the car in tip top shape.

IMO if the 12 month service is done with a respected independent or a good OPC then only regular checks and oil changes need to be done in between - I mean come on these things are bullet proof - built like Porsche's where meant to be built [;)]

By 6 months you mean its had a 6k service? Which is just an oil changed and a lub - up. No spark plugs, filters, dis cap and rotor arm etc etc will be changed. I'd do a 12k service and change the fual filter to.

Yes 6k (6months) is oil and filter only - certainly wont do any harm, but with 3k total a year I think just an oil change will do (will get the condensation out). I do my oil changes myself, if you keep the receipts, shouldn't affect value too much.

My personal view is that as your car does not get used very much then it is more important to have a 6 monthly oil change to remove any water condensation that may be in there. At a 6k service they should inspect the car at the same time and will then be able to spot anything starting to perish or seize up rather than waiting for 12 months.

IMHO an S2 that is used regularly will be okay to stick to the standard schedule of once a year or 12k miles and then change the oil only half way between (ooh like mine then [:D] )

I stick to 12 months or 12k miles with 6k oil changes on mine. So it gets a service every 2 months, then [&:]
