6CD vs Mobridge

Not got my 997 yet but watching the £35 to 40K market, 2005 C2S in the range and 2006 if go private. Was planning on getting one with Bose and 6CD but have just been looking at the Dension and Mobridge info. Am I right in understanding that fitting a mobridge or dension means you need to disconnect the 6CD or can you leave both on the most network?

If you disconnect the 6CD to put in the mobridge does the PCM see the mobridge as a 6CD and work without being reprogrammed via OPC?

hi i have had a dension fitted and i put a switch in the glove box to switch between the cd changer and the ipod. it works very well. the blue tooth is a bit of a hassel though.alright for incomming calls but to dial out is a mess.

Depends if your new car has PCM 2.1 or a standard head unit. The dension and mobridge both simulate the original sim card operation of the telephone in the PCM but connect with your phone via bluetooth. Personally i like the dension product they have very good customer support based here in the UK in High Wycombe. The PCM will also play CD's in the head unit so the chances of needing a 6 disc CD changer after you have a dension or mobridge fitted are rare.

Not really fussed about the phone bit, I will rarely use that and if the car I get doesnt have a phone module then my bluetooth parrot visor speaker thing will be fine for those occasions. Its how the ipod bit interfaces to the PCM I am interested in, to get one of these units do I need to select a car with 6CD and accept that it wont work when the ipod gets installed or does it not matter ie either has to go to a dealer to have the pcm programmed to talk to it?

Your car will need the PCM enabled with a CD changer option. If the car doesnt already have a CD changer fitted then the PCM can stikll be activated to accept the input from one. Any good indi with a PWIS can activate it for you. Forget having the CD changer and the ipod running side by side its nots possible , the closest solution is the dension which keeps the original CD changer physically connected and allows you to switch between the ipod/ USB and the CD changer by using a switch provided in the kit.
