Will the 9's fit under the arches of my 88 Carrera? Also what tyre size would you suggest? Thanks Dan.

9" rears with 245. 45. 16's fitted on my 911SCR

Tons of room with 245/45x16. Compared to the 8 inch wheel that came as std on the 89 3.2s, most of the extra width is on the inside. With over 2 degrees negative camber on my car I can run 14mm of spacers to push the wheels out a little more, but without the spacers, there is plenty of clearance on all sides - see picture below with the spacers in place. With careful wheel selection, you can get up to a 275 tyre on a 9.5 inch rim under the rear guards. A 10 inch rim might need the springplate bolts shaved and the oil lines relocated.
