7 pin connector ??

Hi
Might have put this in the wrong post before....sorry
I have a 944s 1987 that has a round connector on the drivers side inside the engine compartment near the inner wheel arch.
The connect has three male pins and four female connectors in a circle with a plastic end cover.
What is it and what does it do.

Porsche workshop manual vol1a shows this connection - page 3-4. It is for connecting a diagnostic tool. For the 944S it also shows a rectangular connector on a separate harness just ahead of the DME control unit (under the floor board). My 1991 S2 also has the round connector with cap but it is in the passenger compartment under the glove box (note mine is a left hand drive) - I haven't opened up the floor board to see if the additional connector is there near the DME.
