718 (and maybe 981) rattle around seatbelt reel/storage bin - possible fix discovered!

For a while now I've had an annoying rattle around the passenger side seatbelt reel/sliding covered storage bin area in my 718 GT4. I thought it was the main plastic covers/shrouds at first so I added some foam to the joints but it didn't work. Nor did foam between the covers/shrouds and my roll cage. So I removed all the foam and just lived with it.

However, I came across this YouTube video earlier today which seems to identify a potential source of the rattle I have. The rattle sounds like plastic on metal so this discovery makes sense to me:

I've just added a small piece of double sided tape under the plastic tab on both sides of my car which will hopefully have cured the problem on one side and prevented it from happening on the other. Given that it's a common issue, and the fix so easy to implement, I thought I'd share in the info [:)]

Thank you Dave,

Good to see that you`re still on here [;)]

A previous 981 CS had similar on the passenger side, it appeared to be `cured` by keeping the belt fastened into the receiver

Hi Andrew. Since Bicester Heritage has been canned I am indeed still here, keeping quiet in the background for the most part [;)]

I think the seat belt can rattle, which may have been your issue(?), but mine was present when I had passengers too. The plastic tab could definitely be made to click on the metal beneath it so it'll be interesting to see if the fix cures it.

On that note, I'm off for a drive to the gym...

Just a quick follow up - no rattle on the way to and from the gym, so signs are looking good so far...

Good to see you still with us Dave.

Perhaps we should have a rattle thread in the Technical forum. I resorted to keeping a few microfibre cloths in the car and one, pushed down the side of the seat cured mine. But I think I will try your more permanent solution.

Good idea John. There are a few common problem areas in addition to the one I talk about above such as the oil/water filler caps, rear parcel shelf cover, high level brake light, seat belt buckles etc.

The carbon buckets can also creak, enthusiastic use plus exercising of the fore - aft and height mechanism helps to fix things

They do indeed, thanks Andrew. Mine are now absolutely fine after a good thrashing around Silverstone International last weekend...

Dave, this noise has been doing my head in for months now, on both sides.

I'll give this a try later, if it works I owe you a pint or two.
