718 battery replacement?

My 718 2.0 PDK Boxster is approaching 8 years old and still on its original battery (36,000 miles and always on a trickle charger when at home). Battery voltage is reading around 12.8V on start-up.
Any suggestions of decent replacement batteries when it is due for renewal (avoiding main dealer prices obviously) - I will get the original health-check tested when it goes for its 8 year service early next year.

From what I'm led to believe, the battery has to be coded to the car to ensure the ECU provides the correct amount of charge to the battery. A tired battery will need more and a new one less.

Could be total hog wash but I'm sure someone with more knowledge will chip in.

That’s right Dan, but only on the 981 and 718-series cars. A simple procedure, carried out via the diagnostic port and so requiring PIWIS or equivalent, although there are many cheap DIY units available to do this.

In answer to Rowie’s question, if you don’t have the Porsche Extended Warranty you can fit a battery of your choice. Bosch, Varta or similar will be appropriate. The Tanya name is often quoted on these forums as a reliable supplier.

Was told by 2 xOPC that a non Porsche battery does not void your extended warranty and like wise if you are extending your warranty it does not need a Porsche battery ,reason stated Porsche do not make batteries ,also the gunk for tyres is not required . I think contacting your local OPC to ask their take on it .

Blimey, I’m amazed. Completely different response from that given to pretty much everyone else over the years.
