718 Cayman Ordered :) (...and now cancelled!)

Hi Folks,
I've ordered a 718 Cayman this weekend (10 Dec 2016).
apparently I will get an April / May build slot, so I guess that means car in June.
Ive gone for Racing Yellow with black.
718 model designation, 64l fuel tank and passenger footwell stowage net.
The big question on my mind is will the price go up before delivery?
cheers, Giles

Great colour combination. I was going to go for racing yellow when I ordered my 981S but bottled it and went for the safe option of white. I ordered this in June 2015 and took delivery March 2016 and there was no price increase during that period.

Racing Yellow with black will certainly stand out. Good for you!

My new 718 Cayman S PDK has arrived at the OPC. I chose the "blend-in" Graphite Blue metallic and silver look.

I also decided on the painted side air intake gills and rear apron. I was not overly keen on the plastic finish. I also chose Alcantara for the smaller GT steering wheel and PDK selector.

I'm counting the days until the 21st December when I get my hands on it.

Brian

A very nice Christmas present to yourself Brian...not long to wait now.

Looking forward to reading about your experiences with the new car on both road and track.

Jeff

Thanks Jeff,

Getting ever closer to the handover date now. My intention is to run-in the car for 1200 - 1500 miles first. That shouldn't take too long hopefully, as the weather here in the Highlands this winter has been extraordinarily mild. We had 16c on the Moray Firth coast last week!

My report will be candidly honest, and will not be a gushing, rose-tinted view coming from someone who thinks everything is wonderful about the car. This evolution of the Cayman marque has been a controversial subject and not widely welcomed, particularly by some current 987 and 981 owners who have compared it to a Golf or a hot hatch.

For my part, I'll not be resorting to such ridiculous Clarkson-esque hyperboles in my report, but if I have any concerns regarding living with the car I shall say so.

I'll post some photos of my new car in a scenic location here in the Highlands early in the new year.

Looking good Brian, perfect for the state of our roads right now [;)]

Difficult question Carchap. The devaluation against the pound will not help. Have you discussed this with the OPC?

Yes, I have discussed with the OPC and we have come to an arrangement.

I have also been thinking about the yellow, which I do think looks amazing, but I'm still having the colley wobbles. Would I be better if with guards red and either agate grey or luxor beige? Why did they make the steering wheel Luxor beige too? Surely that's not only expensive to tool up another leather pattern and manufacturing process but also looks a bit iffy.

I wouldn't consider black or white.

I don't know, I have time to think....

I hope you don't mind me asking but what arrangement have you come to with your OPC?

I have a 718 Cayman in order, due March (hopefully), and I too am worried about the exchange rate affecting prices.

I'd appreciate your input on this (private message me if you'd prefer).

Thanks.

Yep, I will drop you a line.......

I keep looking at Google images of Yellow ones and Red ones!

This shouldn't be a difficult thing to work out :D

Need to catch one in the flesh ... the Miami Blue looked great on paper but was underwhelming in the light of the showroom.

Good luck !

The yellow does look awesome but the everyday living with that colour needs a clear decision.

The yellow looks great go on!

The standard colours (red, white & yellow) do particularly suit the '981' body style. I was very split between the red and yellow with black accoutrements. Plumped for the guards red but still hanker after the racing yellow. If I were to purchase the hatchback variant I think I would definitely go for the yellow. A minor plus point is that it would give the ascerbic Demon Dave something good to say about a 718 ;).

I'm sure you will enjoy it whatever you choose.

Car looks fantastic Brian & only a few days to go now...

My OPC are now marketing the Cayman I test drove & loved, it's just about the perfect daily driver spec & within my original budget (plus I can't get carried away ticking too many options...). So as I'm already fed up with waiting & one dealer said it's likely to be 9 month (blaming work being carried out to improve the production line at the factory...?) I'm thinking of seeing what I can negotiate on it.

yellow is a good colour for a Porsche, I had two speed yellow boxsters before a 986s and a 987,yes they do stand out,i would have bought a yellow 981 ,did look for one could not find one in the spec I wanted(full leather, sat nav, front and rear parking sensors, bose, twin tail pipe and manual box)had to settle for metallic black,(shows every mark and hard to keep clean )

My dealer (Exeter) rang and told me that instead of the planned April or May build slot with a May or June delivery, it would now be more like October.

My order is now an ex-order, so great news for the others on the Exeter waiting list as you will get your Cayman a bit sooner! :D

Cheers, Giles
