718 Cayman PDK Delivered - Very Pleased

Hi Everyone,

I picked up my new 718 in late November fron OPC Chester and thought I would update you on the car which has just done 1k miles.
I have to say not being a techi but someone who uses the car for their daily commute I am very pleased. This is my 4th Porsche and 2nd Cayman (previous was a 2011). The car inside is very similar to the previous versions I recall and I do enjoy the connect plus albeit a bit of a hurdle at first to work out; hence my comment of not being a techi!. The car has been spec'd with all the comforts everything heated and leather as the inside is as important to me as the performance as the two go hand in hand I believe.
The drive is from what I remember similar to the 2011 Cayman and the pick-up very similar as with anyone I think who buys the cars buy them for the joy of the drive, the look and thrill of knowing it can GO if you want it to. I know I will enjoy the car for years to come, every morning when I open the door and see the car it brings a smile to my face which to me is a big part of owning a Porsche.
Mine won't go anywhere near a track (not my scene) but I do envy anyone who takes the car on track days and gets the buzz.
I enjoy reading all the posts and please continue with them and I hope if I ever need any help or advice this forum will be my first port of call to contact fellow enthusiasts.

Regards
Diane

Well done Diane! Nice in Sapphire Blue.

A very honest appraisal from a non-techie standpoint and apparently you are happy with the 4 pot motor and performance......... Handling ok?

Regarding the track days not being your scene, I can unreservedly recommend you going along to a PCGB track day in 2017 if only to spectate. You may well get an offer to sit in with a driver who knows what he is doing, and I would wager you would not go away disappointed. You may even feel the inclination to have a go yourself.

Enjoy your 982.

Brian

Cheers for the feedback Diane, glad to hear you are really enjoying your 982.

I agree with Brian about the sapphire blue, does look really good in that colour choice. I've noticed on a number of 982 Caymans the window trim comes in black and silver. Is black the standard trim or is it something that needs to be specified? For some reason I can't find it on the build list specifications... I certainly remember the 981 having the option to change the window trim.

Regards

Shane

Shane,

I believe that black window trim is standard with the chrome trim as an option.

Your 982 looks great in Sapphire Blue Diane. Good to hear that you're enjoying new car ownership and hope you continue to do so.

And I agree totally with Brian's comments regarding track days...!

Hi Diane,

Nice to hear of another satisfied 718 owner, sapphire blue was on my colour choice short list - looks great but my last car was a very similar colour so fancied a change!

Im not a seasoned track day enthusiast but have done a few in my previous 'lotus' life & they are great fun providing you chose the right one for you, having been bullied into taking a bend too fast at silverstone by a car behind being virtually on my bumper resulting in me spinning 360 (fortunately avoiding any contact) it can be scary & potentially costly...

I'm sure a PCGB event would be much better than the arrive & drive 'nutters day out' I've been on in the past :)

Enjoy your car however you use it, I will hopefully be posting some thoughts on my car in the next few weeks as im already nearly in to a month of ownership, if you need any help or advice (especially on the connect plus which I'm only just getting to grips with) give me a shout!

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one flummoxed by Connect Plus!

Re the track day topic, the PCGB track days are usually very safe and enjoyable fun. Anyone reported tailgating or bullying any other driver into a spin would be sent home and unlikely to get another entry. Steve Kevlin runs a very professional track day with excellent driver's briefings beforehand. Safety is paramount, and everyone respects other's cars and track space. Unlike the "open to all" track days run by other organisations. I've booked Knockhill on 24th June already, and may also enter Anglesey on 20th May.

I'm holding the appraisal on my 982 CS PDK until after I have compared it on tracks I that know well with my former CR Manual. Only then will I have a true picture of how the 982 CS PDK really compares with the benchmark CR.

Or seeing as Diane is near Chester, come along to the Porsche RS day Oulton Park in March. There will be quite a few of us on track in our Caymans. [:)]

Hi Shane

Sorry for not responding sooner, don't often get a chance to post. As Jeff said the trim in black is standard.

Still enjoying the car, but please read my next post you might find it interesting.

Diane

Hi Everyone,

Many thanks for all the kind feedback, the car is going great and I took it on a 64 mile round trip a mix of motorway, A roads and stop-start traffic and I was pleasantly surprised to get 33 mpg which I think is pretty good.

Look out for my next post you might be surprised!

Keep the good posts coming as there always a joy to read.

Regards

Diane
