718 Cayman S - sports mode dial not working and auto start stop button not working Advice?

Hi all

hoping for some advice, I bought a 718 Cayman S from Auto 100 a couple of weeks ago, the dial on the steering wheel hasnt worked since I had it and I now notice that the auto start stop turn off button doesn't work. The dealer has advised that its a low voltage issue and to give it a good run then disconnect the battery for 10 mins and reconnect.

I just want to know if this sounds familiar and if there is anything I need to do in terms of a memory saver, do i need one and where do I get one from?

Thanks

Ian

Hi Ian,

I’m afraid that I can’t give you a definitive answer to your question but all sorts of strange things can happen if the battery isn’t in tip-top condition, so the dealer’s advice to give the car a good run probably isn’t far off the mark.

If you disconnect the battery you may find this post useful, although note that it’s more than 8-years old and was applicable for the 987-series from 2005 and the procedure could be slightly different for your 718.

However, if the problem persists then go back to the dealer and insist that they replace the battery FOC, to which I believe you’re entitled since the car was handed over to you with the problems you describe.

It MAY be a battery problem but I advise NOT to disconnect the battery as this could/will throw up a number of warning messages that will require a reset from a main dealer/Indi. By all means take it for a longish run to put some charge into the battery or plug the car into a Ctek battery tender overnight and then see if the faults disappear. How old is the car? If it's an early one (2016) it may need replacing if it wont hold charge. If it does need replacing you'll have to tell the car it's a new battery via the s/w on the car done by a dealer/indi.
