718 GT4 - Radiator fans on full all the time

Hey all,

Car is booked in on 6th July, but wondered if anyone else had experienced the front radiator cooling fans on full blast, all the time, even when cold. Really noisy!

Only just started happening a week ago (and I know it's hot; have tried at night when much cooler, and in the rain, same issue).

Feels like it will be something very simple - loose sensor, leaves blocking something etc. So asking here to see if anyone else has had same issue.

Thanks!
Stephen

I don't actually have an answer but a quick plug in diagnostic scan would reveal the problem?

Possibly the engine temp stat sensor gone down?

Failsafe mode would be fans flat out rather than no function.

Hi Stephen, As said, it sounds as though a temperature sensor could have gone rogue and the most cost-effective way of finding out what’s happened is to run some Porsche-specific diagnostics to see if some errors have been flagged-up.

Generally, in the warmer weather the coolant fans will go to max when the car’s stationary at normal running temperature and with the aircon switched on, so you could try switching off the a/c completely to see what happens.

Hi both,

Thank you very much for the responses, agree it sounds like a sensor issue. I tried shutting off AC and still the same, so it seems to be getting a 'hot' signal when it isn't.... Will try and get diagnostics ahead of it going in.

Thanks again,

Stephen

To close this thread off with the cause and subsequent fix....

Car went into the OPC, as suspected sensor wasn't reporting a temperature which failed the fans to on.... Sensor wasn't the fault though; after tracing it was found the cabling to sensor was damaged in a couple of places - noted as suspected rodent damage as could visibly see gnawing signs... cable stripped back, repaired and recovered and all is well again.

Unfortunately, not warranty covered as it's an 'external factor'. Anyway, all sorted now. Thanks again.
