718 GT4 wing imperfections 'Dimples'!

I have an issue with the wing on my 718 GT4 (2021). The wing is attached to the struts/pylons by 4 bolts, 2 on each side. They bolt up from underneath the wing. The issue is on the top of the wing where ‘dimples’ have formed that are directly above where the bolts are. It is as though there are captives nuts within the wing structure which the bolts screw into which may have been over tightened. I have not touched the wing in anyway. I noticed one of the imperfections when I was washing the car. Porsche Centre Portsmouth found the other 3 when they inspected the car. Unfortunately it is impossible to photograph the ‘dimples’ as shadows and highlights spoil the image.

My question is, has anyone else had this issue? I guess that it could affect other models too. The car is under warranty and Porsche Centre Portsmouth have gone back to Porsche with a claim on my behalf. Porsche have replied saying that it is not a claimable item, they have not explained why.

I will be calling PCP to discuss the next step tomorrow. I feel that this issue falls well within the remit of a manufacturing defect which has come to light over time. Incidentally, PCP went back to Porsche claiming for replacement components not repair.

What are your thoughts and do you have any advice which would be useful?

TIA Chris

I seem to remember this issue being discussed on PistonHeads or Rennlist earlier this year, so it's happened on at least one other car. Or you've bought the same car?

Is the car PPF'd by any chance? Did the PPFers remove and refit the wing causing the problem? I guess it's not a manufacturing defect if the wing has been removed post-delivery and the bolts overtightened, but tracing the person who did it if the car was bought used is nigh on impossible.

If you bought the car new it could also be hard to prove you or someone working on the car hasn't removed the wing.

Hi Chris,

Unfortunately I can’t help with your issue, but if yours is a 2021 car I assume that - unless it was a December registration - you’re now outside the 3-year factory warranty and are now on the Porsche Extended Warranty which will have its own T&Cs and may not include bodywork faults such as yours? This may account for Porsche UK refusing to accept the claim.

I think that the body has a 10-year corrosion warranty but I don’t know about the bodywork itself, which may only be covered by the 3-year factory warranty, so it’ll be worth having a close look at your documentation for both the original and extended warranties.

The wing is plastic, so no corrosion claim possible Jeff? It doesn't sound like it's a paint issue either if it's still intact.

To fix it, you could try removing the wing and re-fitting it using the correct torque on the bolts. Then gentle heat may help reform the plastic, or just leave it and let a sunny day next year do its thing?

Really? I didn’t appreciate that Dave. So - with the exception of the bonnet - the whole front end is plastic?😳 I think the sills and rear panels/side intakes are also plastic?

If the wings are plastic then I’d agree that it’s possible that they’ve been removed and the bolts overtightened when the wings have been refitted.

Jeff

The outer shell of the rear wing is plastic I believe, and that's what we're taking about? Not a front left/right wing.

We're GT4ing here ;)

Ah! We’re talking about the rear wing/spoiler and not the body.🙄 Chris just said ‘wing’ … now the strut/pylon reference is clear!😀
