718 Recall

I’ve fitted the zunnsports on my 981S as I couldn’t bear picking out shit from in front of the roads anymore

problem solved

Just received a letter from Porsche GB, apparently I must stop chucking my fags in the air intakes or the car will spontaneously combust. Don’t they know I am non smoker !

Appears that they are going to retrofit mesh grills into the side intakes. I presume there must have been some issues with the build up of leaves etc in the intakes.

I also thought that the front intakes don’t offer much protection from stones so perhaps may consider fitting the Zunsport grilles although I think there may be warranty issues with this.

Agreed, but isn't it pathetic that PGB have decided to address something which is a voluntary action by a few people (cigs out of the window) but not address the bigger issue that affects all 718s (B&C) and previous iterations, with stones damaging the rads?

Or are they in cahoots with Zunsport? [:D]

Had my letter yesterday too! I remember someone on here recently having what I'm imagining these grills to be fitted for free during their service!

Yes David that is a good point. I would imagine there they are reacting to some law suits probably in the USA .

It’s not an expensive fix to fit mesh a grille instead of the pointless plastic slats in front of the radiators

I think your confusing two separate issues, the side intake grilles will be fitted by PCGB f.o.c as a recall matter. I am going to have this done with my service as the risk of fire is so unlikely that it does not warrant a further separate visit to the dealer.

The more important issue relates to the front of the car where the radiators are low down and poorly protected by the factory fitted slat type grilles which are not part of the recall.

Agreed, that the side intakes are a 'law suit' protection device.

I would cynically say why would Porsche want to protect the front rad's that they probably make good money replacing ones on cars out of warranty...

Perhaps the moderator might highlight this thread to the club's liaison representative for them to take up with PCGB Reading?

If they (PCGB) do this (cigs) should they not also address the front rads issue which is the more serious matter?

If you are worried about the warranty issues and front grills just take then off before you take the car into POrsche!!
