'73 2.7 RS to Hedingham Castle....and back !

Well chaps....it may not be the correct forum for this subject but felt I should briefly share with you my experience for the first time driving a genuine '73 RS Lwt. It all started this morning from my usual place of work in Chelsea, in convoy with two beautiful 356's....a black Cabriolet super 90 and a Ivory Speedster....both having had a 100 point restoration through Maxted Page & Prill. My friend owns both these two and the RS, plus A 997 Turbo back home in Bodrum.
I now totally understand the often over exercised hype these unique cars generate.
One way to sum things up for me, at least between my own '92 Lwt and my friends '73 RS, is that if you can imagine the former being just as agile as the latter, but having spent 6 months circuit training, building power & muscles and sporting a hairy chest, where as the latter is a slightly built more athletic individual with not a body hair in sight !
It's hard to imagine something like this was available on our roads 38 years ago.

Truly intoxicating.

I've now started saving.....but still would not part with the 964 !

I will admit I have a hunkering for a '73 RS or RSR... seriously considering going the full FIA paper RSR replica route right now... but not driven either yet...

Also a bit off topic....

...but as emotional!

Agree - thanks for sharing, I've never driven one, but was stunned at what a good car a 2.0 '65 car is. Makes me think the '73 RS must be fantastic.....one day.

Drove Mithrils 2.7 RS at Goodwood a few years ago.

Fantastic on track. Sweet handling and engine which I commented on... "Yeh, that's what Stirling Moss said when he drove it!!" [:)]

I had a Carrera 3.0 before my 64RS's and that was fabulous to drive. Ok so it was built 4 years after the 2.7RS but i could appreciate that the 2.7 RS must have been quite something. An extra 10 ponies over the 3.0 in a lighter package must have been like a rocket ship. Unfortunately Porsche started to de-tune the cars after that in the hope people would buy a 928 !

Mel,
I've driven that car a couple of times, and was hugely impressed with it first time out. Second time I drove it I looked a little more carefully, and I don't think it's a genuine RS at all. I'm reasonably sure from looking at the stickers in the engine bay that it's actually a 2.4 dressed up as an RS. I couldn't be 100% sure but there were enough other things that made me question the provenance. It's quite possibly built to RS spec, but I don't think that's how it started.
That said, whatever it may be, it's a lovely drive, though starting to look a little tatty.
