78K MILES

Hi considering changing my convertible cs2 to a carerra hardtop, white with black wheels and red interior.

However the owner has done 78k miles and it is a 54 plate, it is the 997 version not the 996.

Full porsche dealer history. Is the mileage simply too much to even worth considering this car. its going for 29k.

Thanks

sorry its from a dealer and its £28k. Its just an ordinary carerra but looks really nice.

But i am a little concerned with the mileage

6 years old so 78k miles is just average car mileage, albeit a bit high for a Porsche.

Its going to have wear n tear associated with that mileage but if components have been replaced as required (and documented in the service receipts) then it could be a decent enough buy. Buying froma dealer you at least get some comeback/warranty and chances are they will have addressed some stone chipping/wear at the front end.

On a 54 plate the engine won't have the later RMS and IMS bearing mods, but if its got this far its probably a good 'un ! There's a train of thought that people who buy the cheaper 3.6 non S cars weren't looking for ultimate performance and are possibly driven more gently than the 3.8S version. I've not looked at prices recently but non S cars with lower mileage are probably around the 32-33k mark these days, so could be worth a look and an independent or OPC inspection.

i wouldnt say no but definately get it independently checked -if ok then ask for a grand or two off as its def a tad overpriced even for dealer(tho not if its an OPC!!!)

Obviously I can't comment on this particular car but I bought a fairly high mileage 05 997S last year - 67k on the clock. FSH of course but it was the sheer quality of the car that sold it to me - unmarked inside and outside and a wad of receipts right back to the original sale docket.

Never looked back and I'm definitely glad of choosing a 997 over a 996; maybe that's just the vanity of the "newest" model but I hope that will be reflected in resale value (not that I'm thinking of selling at all).

If you go for it, enjoy the fun!
