84 lux rear wheel spacer question?

422hp944

Lad's,
A friend of mine has just got his first 944, A september 84 model. It has 968 wheels and the rear wheels seem to be sitting in just a tad, can anyone of the wheel guru's here recommend ( or not? )what make or brand wheel spacers that would be suitable for his type of wheel? They would look great if brought out a couple of inches ...Cheers

84 is presumably pre ABS hubs, so I would have thought 968 wheels would be really set in at the front too??

When I bought my car it had spacers from design 911 which bolt to the wheel and have their own wheel studs set into the spacers to receive the wheels and I was using the original (closed) wheel nuts. After a couple of track days I thought steel wheel nuts would be safer for track use. Upon receiving the new wheel nuts I started to fit them only to find the studs only protruded about half way through the wheel nut - not good enough for me and a bit shocking to be truthful . So, new, longer, wheel studs were fitted to the spacers. Whomever you buy the wheel spacers from, if they have their own studs, make sure they're long enough!

Cheers
Mick

A much better bet would be to fit some proper wheels

either
1. Original Porsche Fuchs (expensive) or Cookie Cutters or early offset teledials

2. Replica Cup 1/2/3 with a low offset (~et20 I think)

The difference is 30mm between early- and late-offset wheels. That's the spacer you need, if you want to go that way. Why, though, when as Ed has said, original wheels with the correct offset look better anyway!

All the details of the offsets etc. are in the "wheels" faq. [:)]

30mm Spacers will look orrible, tell him to get some correct offset wheels, there are some nice ones about.

Thanks for everyones advice/input, I will tell him to source the correct wheels as the spacer route looks a bad idea from what you all say.....Cheers!
