86 944 turbo

Ive just bought an 86 turbo but am i right in presuming it will have the early offsets ??. What has got be thinking is the guy is also selling a set of turbo S forged d90's which he said fit the car but i would have thought the forged wheels would be the later offset ??

This is what i thought with 30mm spacers but he told me they bolted straight on,maybe they did fit but sat in too far ??

I have done this on an 86 944T years ago, assuming you had the spacers on the hubs they did "bolt straight on".[8|]

without the spacers they will not fit - there is no doubt about this.

dont let the need for spacers put you off, the forged rims are light and easy to clean, and look great IMO - just like a dark grey met 944T

To be honest im only buying the car to break for spares as the sill are totally shot and the rest of the body work is nothing to get exited about either. The guy told me the wheels bolted straigh on but i will ask him again when i pick the car up next week !!

How much are the wheels ?, wouldn't mind a set myself.
They come up on ebay from time to time often advertised as D90s, just look closely at the pics. I picked a decent set up for £200 with 4 usuable tyres, one could do with a a bit of work but the others are fine.

An '86 Turbo 'should' be early offset so the D90's or Forged won't fit without spacers.

I'd be interested in both engine undertrays and the passenger side front wheel arch liner if you have them?

Perhaps it is a 1987 model year car? MY87s were built from the beginning of September 1986: this would allow it to be a '1986 Turbo' and still fit forged wheels without requiring 30mm spacers...

Were the forged wheels only a turbo S fitment ?, I'm not too fussed between forged and D90s though as long as they are the 9 inch rears.

Yes forged were Turbo S only. 250 are 7 and 9 but D90s not forged ones.
928s also run 7 and 9s both as D90 and slotted alloys - I think they are a straight swop.

Thanks for the info, I thought the fronts were 7.5 inches.

I've seen both 944, 928 and forged alloys advertised as a mixture of 7 and 7.5.
If I'm honest I don't know the difference (if there actually is any) and I don't think the vendors do either. I would expect the 944/forged alloys to fit but would want to check the offsets for the 928 ones.

The guy was looking for around £300 for the rims but i will get more info on them and know more about the car early next week when i pick it up.

Just found out the car was registered on 05/87 so would this make it the later offset ?? And the wheels are 7" fronts (not sure on rear) with et65 and et60 but not sure which way round if this help work out what they are actually off ??

I wouldn't bother with the forged wheels - in fact I'd take them off if I had a set for 2 reasons;

1. 17" tyres are easier to come by in more brands and types, and usually cheaper (especially of interest to track day users)

2. the forged rims have been known to break, only a few times but enough that there is clearly an issue now with some of them at 20 years old, and my wheel breaking is a risk I personally wouldn't pay money to take

It depends when it was built... If the year identifier in the VIN is an 'H', then itll be a 1987 model year car (WPOzzz94zHN444444).

Just checked and it has H in the vin and also the front wheels fitted are et52 so that clears that up !!.Now ive had a better look at the car the sills are definatly beyond repair but has some good parts fitted !!
