86 LHD Carrera Cabriolet value

Hi - I have bad news in that my 86 Carrera Cabriolet has been crashed by the garage who were MOT'ing it - not the best news I've ever had. The garage's insurance company want to write the car off as they estimate the cost of the parts for repairs to be £7500 + labour, and are estimating the value of the car @ £10,000, with a scrap value of £2500
Does anyone have any recommendations on where to get an independent value for a car - I never got around to getting the club valuation....

Sorry to hear of your misfortune, does your own insurance have a guaranteed value for the car?, if so they should pay you and reclaim the cost from the garage.

I'm not sure whom could give you an independant valuation on a crashed car, but I would get a second option from a porsche specialist bodyshop. - might be worth considering rebuilding the car at another garage! but a write off will be lodged against it

I'd also scan the various Porsche mags etc and collect samples of selling prices for similar spec'ed cars to ascertain a true market value

Good luck

Hi - thanks for the sympathy - my car is acutually looks very similar to your car (assuming that is the one in the picture) can I ask if you have a value for yours?

When I bought my car the end of last year, I had a HPI report done on it. http://www.hpi.co.uk this also tells you the approx value of the car. Maybe appeal the valuation with backup from the HPI and a search on http://www.autotrader.co.uk I can see a couple of "˜86 cabs for sale £12k and £15k. Worth a try.
