86 Turbo Starting Problem

I'm after a bit of advice, my 86 Turbo fires and starts to run then dies after a few seconds. Then nothing unless I leave it for a while then the same thing. Its cranking fine with the rev counter needle over in the yellow sector.

I parked it up in a dry garage a couple of months ago and it was fine, I literally have not even opened the bonnet since then.

My thoughts are low battery voltage, failed sensor, bad / loose connection but these symptoms ring a bell so I think I've read about a similar issue on this forum.

Any help / advice gratefully received.

Thanks
Mark

Mark, this may not be helpful but any time i've had a DME fault, and I've had a few, the car is simply dead.... wont even turn over. Suggest you consider carrying a spare anyway. I also had a problem with a new replacement where it was faulty. You can pay between £20 and £80, the latter being my local OPC and 2-3 days delivery. FWIW given the symptoms I'd be thinking about fuel

Good luck

Well problem solved so I thought I would post the solution in case its useful to anyone.
Turns out the connector for the crank position sensor / speed sensor at the rear of the engine between the cylinder head and the firewall was corroded / contaminated. After a clean up the car fired up as normal.
Before we got to the connector problem I'd replaced the DME relay and DME temp sensor but happy days the guys at UKD in Chipping Sodbury sussed out the problem and it was a 5 minute job to fix it.
