89 Turbo engine misfiring

Anyone got any idea as to why my turbo engine is misfiring. Today after standing for a couple of weeks the engine would not accelerate. However when warm it did improve although it did still misfire. I have had ths problem for about 6 months on and off. It has been to Shirleys but of course the engine ran fine while it was there.
One point that may have a bearing on the condition ios that it stood in about 8 inches of flood water for 6 hours last July. Although as I say it went to Shirleys and came away with a clean bill of health. Frustrated of Warwickshire.
 
Misfire when cold, improving when hot, would suggest electrical maladies.

I'd be looking at cap/rotor arm/HT leads. All expensive I'm afraid, so often neglected.

I'd be inclined to replace your HT leads, dizzy cap and rotor arm anyway even if it doesn't not turn out to be the cause. I replaced mine recently as a pro-active maintenance activity and was amazed my electrcal system was working at all let alone working seemingly perfectly. THe HT leads basically crumbled in my hand the insulation was so perished and the rotor arm time and Dizzy cap contacts were so worn i'm surprised the two were making contact at all.

It is not that expensive to do. I think it cost me about £60 for OEM Beru HT leads and about £40 for the OEM dizzy cap and rotor arm so it's a £100 job that you can do yourself in an hour. I think after 20yrs or so you can gracefully retire the original items.

I thought they were nearer £40 each.

8v Turbo simplicity is much cheaper than those complicated 16v variants :ROFLMAO:

Bert has the cap for £25 and the rotor for £15

Maybe it really is time to trade in the 'ol S2 for a Turbo after all .... particularly as the Titanic thread running at the mo suggests that they do about as well as each other on juice.

Why can't they use the same cap and arm after all? It's not like the parts need to be different for a multivalve application.

if it improves when warm I wouldn't rule out a fuel mixture/delivery problem . Standing that long could effect the fuel in the tank if there is any water or impurities present and also possibly the injectors or fuel rail could be partially blocked or the fuel pressure relief valve sticking. ? Mine has refused to start after leaving it for 2 weeks after 12 months of perfect starting.! I'm inclined to suspect the pump.

Might be a good time to do a general service check plugs points leads etc
