Just had a discussion about these wheels with the seller, my first impression was that the wheels are not original.

The number looks like a 6x15 fuch number ending 020.00 and someone has stamped a 3 on the end over the zero.

The seller instantly took a defensive stance and basically told me I knew nothing. I have had original wheels before and the number looked nothing like the one pictured. I asked the seller to look at the date stamp as maybe this would clear it up.

I have bought items off this seller before and I find it hard to believe that they could get it wrong as I think they are well respected. Any views???

The seller is Brian Gough at Jasmine in Barrowford - they've been around the Porsche scene for many years and have, to the best of my knowledge, an excellent reputation. I would be VERY surprised if they had got it wrong - if anyone knows their wheels, it's Jasmine.

As for the defensive stance - Brian is a Lancashire man [;)] And if your question is the one "These wheels are not origina" shown on the listing - I think it's understandable he'd get wired [8|]

As you well know - with these older parts increasing in value provenance is vital.

For what it's worth I've had 993RS wheels refurbed by them and bought 7's and 8's which were refurbed by them - I've always had pleasent experiences with them. I know others on this board have bought items like a GT3RS wing - so they are known.

For what it's worth - the Fox logo looks genuine - but there should be (from memory) a Fox in a circle printed elsewhere on the back of the wheel - along with the date code.

I'd ask - politely - for more photos of the rear of the wheels. By comparison, here is a stamp from one of my old 6's along with the stamp from the wheels Brian is selling - it does appear as if the last digit is overstamped - but stranger things have happened with Porsche over the years.

As with all old parts - go and see them for yourself - look at whether the rims were widened resulting in the overstamp.

This is why I am slightly confused and treading carefully, The guy I spoke to was not Brian but as I said I have bought off them before and they have always known thier stuff. From the many original 9s and 11s I have had, none have looked like thiers... I realise that porsche did not always have a 100% perfect record of standard numbering but if this were a private seller I would be 100% sure that they were trying to pull a fast one. Why would porsche number it a 6x15 and then change it? Also the later 6x15 non deep dish is the normal basis for a widened fuch. Still no reply as to the date stamp...

Have a chat with Andy Boyle ( Lightweight 911 ).
I had some proper Fuchs 7" and 9" wheels with very strange numbering on them, but it was something that he had come across before, and like you ( and Jasmine ), he's well aware of what's proper and what isn't.
Cheers
John

Well, I'd say they're well worth a look.
I've been looking for some 'nines' and they're rare.
I recently bought a pair in the US. I paid $4,000 for the pair along with a couple of 7" x 15"s. I thought I'd done well. If those wheels are real then you could be looking at a figure in excess of £2,000.
Don't be too quick to dismiss these because of the stamps. As Philip says sometimes the numbering can be irregular and not too tidyly executed.
I'd urge careful checking and some more detailed shots but there could be a bargain there. If I was the vendor I'd try a bit harder and post some better photos.
Here's shots of my nines (which I'm sure are real). Aside from this detail I have the all important provenance that helps to reassure.

Strange how the first set of numbers are cast (on the one for sale) . . . . and Pauls are all stamped.

Strikes me, buying these big wheels (generally) is a bit of a minefield.

"The seller ended this listing early because the item is no longer available for sale"

So, did someone decide they were genuine? Perhaps took a tyre off and had a careful inspection?
Did a serious offer secure them? Or did it turn out that....
