Has anyone seen the advert in C&SC magazine for the sale of a "Unique and one off 1964 Porsche 901 Cabriolet prototype chassis 13360"
I am intrigued by the chassis number and the statement that it is a cabriolet prototype, it looks more like a Targa with the bar removed and for a 1964 901 Porsche it is fitted with the later Fuchs wheels and not steel wheels. The photo is on page 226 of the December edition.

All of my books state that there were only 13 prototypes made between 1962 and 1964 and the highest number as stated by expert, Peter Morgan of the original cars was 13 352.

The photo of the car shows a very nice example of the early 911 which is located in the UK and there is an email address for more info.
Any thoughts anyone? This car does need to be investigated, if it is genuine as it would become only the second prototype model to exist and it is in the UK, the only other one for sure is the 7th prototype, chassis no13 327 and is privately owned in the USA.

Hi Robin
where is the car advertised, sounds interesting
hope you are both well
regards
PH

I think that the existence of this car is generally known.

The design of an open 911 was not pursued until the Targa idea surfaced and allowed the very necessary extra rigidity which is required after removing the roof of a car. The factory concluded that the extra stiffening that would be needed to allow a convertible version did not make economic sense in production terms, although not initially designing the car to be able to also be made in open form must be regarded as something of an oversight!

The advert is in the December edition of Classic and Sportscar magazine on page 226. I am not sure if I can reproduce the advert here but I do have a scanned copy, pm me and I will send you a copy.
The contact email address for the car is akaridis@aol.com I have no idea who this is.

Thanks robin, found the advert on classic driver.
oversight!,i am sure it will have simlar targa strengthening.
