911 964 Gear Selector Indicators

The gear selector indicator lights in the speedometer do not come on unless the head and side lights are on. This is not a significant problem but it does put me off using the tiptronic gear change, and I do not want to drive with the lights on all the time.
I only noticed this after an electrician had installed a Cobra alarm, although I can't swear that the fault wasn't present before this. The electrician has returned, but can't find a problem and maintains that it wouldn't have arisen due to the installation of the Cobra anyway.
Can anyone please suggest where the problem might originate so that I can give another electrician somewhere to start? Even better, does anyone have the name of a competent automobile electrician in the Norwich area who might be able to help?
