911 997 GTS Exhaust Options, Sharkwerks?

Hi All,

Loving my GTS, had her almost 2 months now and have done 1k. Only small gripe I have with it is that it's too quiet! (last car was a 06 Gallardo with a tubi) I don't want to go ott with an exhaust as it's not really why I bought this car, however I would like to improve on the sound and volume.

I've heard good things about Sharkwerks, but they seem to be more US based? Also it seems I can keep the PSE switch which is a massive bonus for me as I want it to feel OEM.

Does anyone have hands on experience with this by pass exhaust from Sharkwerks? is it worth it? and where can I get it done in the UK?

Cheers :)

Hey mate,

It does sound great, more so when it's cold and with the valves open, however imo it's not loud enough..... maybe i'm just abit of a chav lol [:-]:ROFLMAO:

We are each different and its all relative. I have an M135i and the 997.2 Turbo and my little girl tells me that the 'beemer' sounds better than the 'Porsche' because she likes the 'pop, pop, pop, pop, pop' on the overrun. I have her well trained ;-)

hey i just spotted your pic. did you buy your car from [strike]FG [/strike] Maxted Page? I think i recognise the pic and I remember the advert :)

Haha, M135i do sound pretty good! I've never driven a turbo, always loved the look of the 997.2 turbos. How you finding the car?

I purchased the car from Lee at Maxted-Page, however this is probably why it may ring a bell as it was featured on pistonheads - http://www.pistonheads.com/regulars/ph-spottedykywt/porsche-911-997-carrera-gts-spotted/33525

Yes that's the advert! Well done for bagging it. Lovely car.

The turbo is a fine car. Other worldly in the power department. Its Carrera quick when using the first 30% of the throttle and then faster still with the next 20-30% of throttle. But when you push the throttle past half way something ludicrous happens and the car takes off like a startled cat. Problem is the speed limit is upon you within a second or two so its then time to back off ;-)

As a gen 2 car it also sounds throatier than the gen 1 (takes cover as the Mezger army approach) which is a relief as the gen 1 is notorious for sounding muted. Still it is no PSE-beater (not even close).

It is quite amazing to have true super car performance in a package that is as easy to drive and as practical as many a sporty car.

a number of posts on the forum in the subject - I fitted the conversion 18 months ago and very pleased with it and the workmanship on the exhaust bypass - allow 1 hour 15 for garage to fit and should be supplied with stainless bolts and nuts by sharkwerks
check out the. Sharkwerks web site or even email Ross the owner in California and he will respond.
i bought mine from a garage in Cheshire ( don't have details with me ) who import direct and the owner has a Carerra GTS he carried out the mod on
a number of posts also on pistonheads on subject

I quite fancy a go in a turbo, really want to see what the fuss is about. I've always been a N/A kind of guy but I can't seem to shake the itch for a 911T. I was sniffing around the new 991.2 Turbo S at Porsche Hatfield a couple weeks back. Luckily the salesman was busy otherwise I think I would of left with a hole in my pocket! I think they will be a great used buy soon enough.

Its probably fair to say that most of the time you don't access the additional power that makes the turbo so special. BUT when you do tap into it, it is quite something.

Hatfield have a Gen 2 991 Turbo 'S'?
What colour was it, please? They've not been launched yet!
I did see one at the Silverstone Centre on display a couple of weeks ago.

Look what just arrived in the post! :) :)

Spoke with Chris at ABP (thanks again Zeb) on Monday eve and had the exhaust delivered in London on Wednesday!

I'll be heading down to a friends garage tomorrow morning to fit her in :D

I'll try post photos of the install process as well as a before and after vid :)

so is that a sharkwerks cross over? does it eliminate the central rear silencer?

Hi mate,

Indeed it is. It replaces the central muffler to allow the exhaust gasses to cross over far more freely. As the OEM system forces the gasses to do a "U-turn"

As seen here (sharkwerks system is at the bottom):

so simple... better noise and better power? Pls try to post some before and after noise clips :)

I have a 997.2 C4s which is too quiet will be interested to hear what you think of the sharkwerks exhaust once fitted, do they do a version which is switchable? Handy if you are doing a track day with noise limits
