A friend of mine is looking for a 964 rs and mentioned the car at 911 classic. Given its mileage it looks good value. I note it does have a full cage. Anyone got any info on this car?

kind regards

I dont know the history, but have a couple of questions for the collective on the car. Is that a standard bolt in cage? Did all RS's have the battery cut out switch?

Always very hard to tell from pics, but the car doesnt look the cleanest. Also unusual to leave the rear towing eye in, unless car is heavily track used (not neccessarily an issue anyway).

Also note there is a replica further down the page. They seem to be getting more common.

I think this was the one that was used extensively in Japan for corporate hospitality track demonstrations, hence the low mileage. Has been on / off the market for quite some time now through various outlets.

This car has been discussed MANY times on here. To my mind it is £10k over priced ............. 'nuff said !

That is not a standard cage h___ but I do think it looks good in that car. The factory fit cage was produced by Matter (same brand as your CS cage) and was available in either half or full version. There is a yellow RSL (black wheels) on GT Classics "cars sold" section which has the full bolt in version. Have a look at the pics:

The battery cut off switch is not standard ( although many cars have it) but the mounting bracket for it is.
I must get one of those OMP steering wheels...think it looks ace![8D]

Thanks Mat. Interesting cage on this one then. Also curious to see that many standard cars had the bracket but not the switch fitted. I've noticed on mine, that the cut switch has an extra wire that runs to a loop at the top of the bonnet, assumable as an external pull from its race days. The engine cover and boot release have the same thing.

I'm pretty sure it will be a Safety Devices cage, 911 Classic are Safety Devices distributors ....... Whether you like the cage or not, that car is simply not worth the asking price as far as I am concerned, particularly when you compare it with the Guards Red one that Paul Mac had for sale at £40k. The 911 Classic car was up for low £20s two and a half years ago when they first had it. I turned it down at that price ........ (I do accept that the market has moved on significantly since then, but the benchmark for a good car then was low £30s, so how this car is now worth the same as a benchmark car escapes me - yes it has had further work done but it is NOT a benchmark car, hence worth c. £30k)

Every RS that I've seen has had the cut off switch fitted ..... only the CS / Cup has the extra wire up to the bonnet or through to the dash. I'm pretty sure it's standard spec ???

Actually, I think you could be right Jamie...but certainly, not everyone has the pull switch on the dash. For what it's worth, my old RS did.

For completeness. Matter sold more than one type of bolt in cage for the 64 RS , one type bolts to the floorpan the other bolts to the top of the sill section. The cage in the car in question is as pointed out not a Matter one. All 64RS had the battery cut off switch at the battery end. Many have fitted the cut out at the dash and wing top which was an option on M003 package. Some i guess have it fitted for looks , others because of race history.
Value is difficult these days. Would'nt like to comment myself. However worth noting that if it does'bt still have the original seats, wheels and steering wheel tucked away somewhere and you were concerned about having those items for the car then your going to need 3k/4k ish to replace them. That sort of puts the car mid 30's and does'nt assume anything else is'nt missing or worn out or poorly repaired !
