911 porsche world SC article

I recently got hold of the November issue and read with interest the article on Paul Stevens retro look 911. What interested me was the claim for 240bhp from an SC motor with the K jet system still fitted.

so a few phone calls later, heres what I found:-

The engine is based on the 204 bhp engine and is built using standard components but with lightening and balancing. The engine is built by another company called Harvey Racing who seem to do a lot of work for the PCGB classic cars. They were very knowledgable and helpful and seem to think the power is nearer to 225bhp with the earlier backdated exhaust system. The engine will rev to 7000 rpm and not fall off cam at 6000rpm like my current engine.

This all sounds like just what I need for my car and I am really considering giving them my engine for the full treatment, not cheap however has it has to be completly striped down and rebuilt.

So before comitting my hard earned, it would be great for some feedback or experiences, any views?

thanks

Hi Bruce Martin Harvey is just around the corner from me and he has a great reputation in the Porsche racing world and has built some extremely powerful engines. I haven't had any work done there yet, I need to get a slight oil leak looked at but I won't be doing that until the New Year. Martin's a nice friendly older guy with bags of experience. His premises are basic though so that may put you off, go and have a look and come and see me when you do, in fact I'll guide you there as it's out in the back of beyond.
Have you considered the Bitz racing EFI system that unleashes 25bhp straight off and with SSIs and a Triad eahaust you are getting near your target without other mods.

Hi Bones, I will probably take you up on your kind offer for a joint visit early in the new year, I'l send a pm

At the moment I have not really considered EFI as I would like to keep the car looking original so if possible really want to keep the CIS system, wiring and plumbing all intact. My car already has SSI with a 74 carrera OEM box, not sure how much extra this gives on a 204bhp engine.

Martin quoted that his rebuilt engine will obtain peak torque at 500rpm higher than stock which is about 5400 rpm and corresponding peak power 300rpm higher at about 6200 and will keep reving to 7000rpm, just the job!!
