911 Porsche World Test 944S2 v 986

Huge Boxster fan then, Fen ?

Why don't you just spill the beans and eventually confess you're itching of replacing your S2 cab with one ? [:D] [;)]

LOL - I have actually looked at one with just that plan in mind - a 550 Speedster special edition (not that I would have bought a new one) but I just don't get them - they leave me stone dead cold. Zero desirability IMO.

That reminds me I have a set of ugly Boxster 16" alloys in the garage I need to punt on eBay.

Funny isn't it - the 16" Boxster wheels look SO MUCH better on a 944, as do the original 17" Boxster S wheels.

(Edit because I'm stupid!)

Absolutely John.

Like Fen, my brain typed one thing (17") and my fat stubby little fingers typed something else (16")
For those that are wondering, you can't fit 16" wheels to the Boxster S because of the bigger brakes - no clearance.

Any road up, I haven't read all of the article - I got bored.

Do I recall that the conclusion was on the lines of:-

The 944 and 968 are near enough the same car but, because the 968 looks more like a 911, and there are less of them, they are worth twice that of a 944.

They didn't compare a 968 and a Turbot though did they.[;)]

Got to admit quite a fan of the 968 but at twice the price roughly compared to the S2 it just carnt be considered when I get one of those do I want to change the 944 moments and then reality hits home that £ for £ the 944 is spot on.

I don't blame your sudden lack of modesty [] it does look awesome, especially in that colour.

now if I could just unbolt your wheels, spoiler, wing mirrors.......

No that would be the article '944turbo v 968'.

I thought it was an interesting read. For a change I actually read an article, rather than buying for pics. to bluetack on my bedroom wall. Also, the 944 was represented in this mag unlike the PP registers.
Anyway, the bit that made me a little bit sad was in the second to last paragraph which read.. cough ..
' It pains us to say it, but the fact is the 944 seems to be heading the way of the 924 before it- falling in value to such an extent that it's dropped of the scale of desirability, and fast becoming little more than just another old car....'[:(][][&o]

I'm glad I didn't read all of the article now as it might have made me a little cross. Just goes to show that the man knows nothing so all of his unfounded conclusions can be ignored - I'll just stick to looking at the pictures . Then what would you expect from 911 & Cayenne World.

It's only opinions after all! These cars (968 and 944) have been around so long that nobody has anything really new to say about them, and the magazines have to come up with something to try and make it an interesting read and cater for enthusiasts of older models. So the 968 is a better car in the writers opinion? Its a ridiculous thing to even judge. The cars are very similar - the 968 is just a slight evolution so it is no big surprise that someone should consider it better. Bring value for money into the equation and its the 944 that bags it, by miles. The price difference betwen a 944 and a 968 of similar standard is relatively large, so few people will realistically consider one over the other when looking to buy, unless someone wants a bad 968 for good 944 money.

As for "968 is a 944 beaten with a BIG BAD ugly stick" well, its only opinions like I say. The 968 looks undeniably more modern. The biggest improvement is the tidier rear end. I know people who hate the looks of the 944 yet like the 968 - I am surprised that anyone can have such opposite opinions when comparing these cars.

Oh meow! Perhaps we ought to write something for Porsche Post then. [;)]

I think, in the absence of anything else, a review of the good, and bad, bits from the various forums would at least give 944 owners something to look at. But then we have said this before.
