911 Restoration - Channel 5 Tonight

I wouldn't hold your breath Tony, I watched the first programme in the series last week (EType) and it was probably the worst car programme I've ever seen!!

Total drivel presented by a pair of the worst kind of junk-tv presenters. [] It made Wheeler Dealers look like a work of art!!!

C5....what are you thinking about?

Have to agree,

I could not believe what this pair did to the E Type last week! they should not give up their day jobs at Dewhurst's.

Terrible program, complete rubbish and if you miss it don't think of watching it on Ch 5 servers I think there still on Dial-up.

Classic Car destruction

Tonight there destroying a 911.

Classic car restoration - Channel 5 at 8pm tonight. They are restoring a 911.

911 - Do they mean restoring the Twin Towers - not a proper car please don't do it!

Ouch, just watched it, what a pile of old crap. Very scary and a complete bitsa with dross parts and a bad paint job with more filler than poly cell.

I can't believe they valued it at ÂŁ22K, might get that bloke to value mine and then give up work on the proceeds.

Classic car expert: "Is that the original front bumper" :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Oh dear.....that was even worse than the Jag episode last week []

ÂŁ22k.....what a laugh!!

Classic car expert: "Is that the original front bumper" :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Along with the 3.2 engine from 1977. Was it me or did that thing sound awful?

There was some nice 911 footage in there, just a shame they attributed the road holding the suspension and not the fact that the engine is over the rear wheels.

Turns out the car was owned by a chap on impact bumbers, here is the spec:

Basics:
- 1977 coupe in silver. 77,000 miles
- 3.2 engine fitted by me, stackloads of history for the engine (bought from an IBer)
- Originally a LHD European spec, but converted to RHD when it was imported to the UK in the 80s
- Very little documented history, but I have some resto photos (I bought the car off a colleague who had started restoring it) and the engine has loads of documented history
- Bodywork is cosmetically very tatty (flaky and cracked paint all over) but the normal 'rust worry' areas have had attention (kidney bowls, sills, A pillars, inner wings, battery area etc). Recently some rust has appeared on the roof and scuttle panel. I have treated the rust on the roof but realistically the car needs a bit of bodywork and a good coat of paint.
- Car is mid way through a backdate. I have all the parts to either complete the backdate (rust free wings, fibreglass bonnet, light boxes) or to return it to original spec (everything except bellows and bumper tubes) before paint.
- Lots of parts included (non original FG whale tail, flapper boxes, aerial, interior bits)
- Interior is bare. Sparco sports seats fitted, but I still have the original vinyl (torn) seats and carpets. I don't have the rear seats.
- Heater boxes need fitting and commissioning
- Most stuff works. Notable exceptions include the electric mirrors, a few dash lights and the passenger window. It also needs a new indicator switch (dodgy main beam contact and no self cancel).
- Suspension has all been rebuilt but needs alignment/tracking
- Recent brake discs, pads, wheel cylinders, master cylinder, pedal bushes and braided hoses.
- New fuel pump
- Refurbed 15" cookie cutters
- MOT (May 2012) and tax (March 2013).

The car is on the road and drives well, but it's honestly the tattiest IB I've seen and it would really suit someone who's prepared to spend the time or money on the last of the bodywork and paint. The registration plate (911 OHT) is available by separate negotiation.

I'm offering this at ÂŁ7,250 and will see what happens.

The programme should be re titled - how not to restore your car! what a pair of back street cowboys.........was it my hearing as they described the car as a 3.3 early on and as 3.2 at the end..... I hope the hand painted colour coded brake calipers dont catch on!! [:D]

The only good bits were the original film clips!

Yes he said 3.3 - When the car came out after being painted paint he NICK named the car a LONRO (not sure what menat - Any ideas?[;)])

That programme made me want to cry,car looked like a dogs dinner albeit a very shiny orange one[&o]

Well I recorded it and was going to watch it tonight when Lorraine watched British Bake Off.

The E-type prog really was poor - pity the buyer that eventually owns it. Like Steve & Booman, I recorded the 911 prog, now what do I do?[:(] But then I guess the programme isn't made for owners or fans.
