911 SC Colours

I have just bought an 82 SC which I am thrilled with.
Apart from the same heat problem discussed elsewhere which is this afternoon's job, I am having a problem tracking down the correct colour code.

I need to try to obtain a touchup kit for the usual little bits and pieces but the official label is missing and as I bought it at auction I couldn't ask the previous owner.

The car is dark brown/aubergine metallic and it has the code U9U9 in the maintenance book and a written label under the bonnet which says the colour is L88Y Maronen Braun Metallic. I have tried my dealer and also a VW dealer but so far no luck as neither recognise this code.

Has anyone got an SC this colour who could help me out with the official code please?

If not, would a letter to Porsche GB get me the original details of the car?

Many thanks

Email the 911SC Reg Sec, Darren, who has a list of all the colour codes. He will be able to assist you I'm sure.
Details in Porsche Post and on the clubs website.

Nick,

Larger Halfords Stores offer a very good paint mixing service and can mix either quite large touch-up pots (with brush in lid) or aerosol cans of paint to exactly match your paint code.

They have a computer database with all the codes for various manufacturers and the system measures out the correct colours for the perfect match.

In my experience the colour match was extremely good. Although it helped to take along the name of the colour as well as the paint code.

P.S. Just to say I have no professional interests in the Halfords company! And do check the colour-match before attacking your car's paintwork!

Many thanks everone - I understand the colour is Rosewood Code 474.

So it's off to Halfords then!!

Thanks again

Nick

I'm interested to find out how the Halfords paint measures up . Post your findings when you've done the job. Which part of your car are you spraying, I just want to spray the inside of my A-pillars as the finish is crap there. Think they were trying to save paint on the SC, seriously. I wouldn't trust a paint that didn't require heat to cure it on any external parts.

Sorry for the delay - I've had a login problem which has only just been resolved.

I now have a bottle of touch up paint from Halfords and the colour is spot on!!

I have done most of the chips on the car and you really can't see the join.

It isn't actually very high tech at Halfords - they just have a database and some very accurate digital scales. Once the colour is found (The system is Italian so a paint code number is essential) they just pour the correct weight of various paints into a pot and hey presto!!

I would suggest showing interest and watching and checking very carefully as they do it. The guy who did mine was on the ball (if they put slightly too much of one colour in, they fish it out drop by drop with a wooden spill !!) so if they do it right it should be OK.

Now all I've got to do is sort out this damn automatic heat control!!

Happy painting!!

Nick

I agree with 'showing an interest comment' when they mix your colour. I just stood close-by and kept an eye on what was going on (not that I knew what was going on but I felt by 'being there' it would prevent any cock-ups).

I guess you can tell if you've got 'saturday boy' by his level of confidence in using the equipment - although I'm sure staff would need to be trained properly to be allowed to use the system?

Nick, Glad the Halfords suggestion did the job. It's nice to know Halfords has a use other than coloured wiper gaitors and 5" vinyl sheets to block out the windscreen top on Novas.
