911 SC Exhaust

Hi
I have a '79 SC with early type headers. I was told they give an extra 20 BHP.
As the heat exchangers were removed for some reason at the same time, I'm looking for advice as to the best option.
So, any help would be appreciated as to what I should do next.
Thank you all
Paul

I'm in a similar situation. I found this page helpful: http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=29334&mpage=1&key=exhaust

Can anyone say if this is up to date, or is there newer stuff out there? I've got bog a bog standard SC exhaust system with rotten exchangers. I'm leaning toward stainless steel with an equal length feed, however more power is not my first priority, nor is loudness, but a "sweeter" exhaust note would be welcome. Am I heading in the right direction?

My first big project on my 1980 911 SC is to replace the heat exchangers (which are completely shot) and then tune the engine. If anybody has some heat exchangers for sale to fit a 1980 204 BHP standard 911 i would love to hear from you.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Elliot , I take it you know if you are tuning the engine then you need an early twin out system without the crossover which robs the engine of bhp.

I am going to let 911 sport do the technical stuff as i havent got the time. i assume an early system will fit the stud centres and diameters etc. Any info / tips on doing this procedure would be greatly appreciated

thank you

There is no problem with the studs on the engine but you need to make the people doing the work know that you want a 6-2 system, (that is 3-1, either side) and not a later 6-1 system. I'd go for a 2in 2out exhaust but many people buy a 2 into 1 due to lack of availability. I have a triadwestperformance 2 into 2 exhaust on my SC with '73 HEs, it's a cracking system.

Here's one I fitter earlier Elliot [;)] This is the kind of thing Bones is talking about, these are SSi's with an M&K twin exit box.

And it sounds like this.......Clicky [:D]

Looks and sounds great - how much would the parts cost for the above? and where do you recommend getting them from.

It's a little hard to see from the pic what the real condition is, surface gunk and rust wouldn't be a problem but obviously you don't want a structural problem. You will also need to weld up the hole where the cold start pipe is attached - a five bob job. They look like the exact itms you need but off hand I can't remember if the flange diameter is correct for an SC.
If you don't drive the car in the wet much then you have no need for stainless steel so an option would be to buy new mild steel HEs from type 911 where you will get the oil pipes, fittings and good advice too on the correct flange diameter. If you don't need heat (I recommend you have it as sooner or later you will meet conditions where the screen mists up), then headers minus HEs are an option, saves weight but best left to racers only. If you haven't seen this before, it should wet your appetite further. [;)]

the three ports are 35mm and the larger 45mm if that helps - apparently there is surface rust but no structural defects - what do you suggest i offer for these?

cheers

Elliot,

I had a look at these on Ebay and was tempted. However, the guy doesn't kow what he's got and doesn't know what they came off. They have been repaired and don't look in great condition. I decided to leave them alone as a bit too far gone. I also reckeo they are off a far earlier car and may not fit. I've got no idea what that rubber hose is either.

The rubber pipe is part of the cold start mechanism, you just grind of the protruding pipe and weld up the hole as I had to do on my early HEs, they look right but the header flange diameter is important. As to the condition? Well I've seen a lot better.

Decided today to leave them well alone and after speaking to type 911 i have decided not to buy a 928 and splash out on a £1200 stainless setup.

Thnk i will get 911 sport to fit them for me as wary of studs etc.

cheers
