I know this must be an old chestnut, but can anyone recommend a mechanic, small business, or workshop anywhere in the South of England, who will do any necessary work on my Carrera coupe without skinning me alive? I know there are numerous larger companies like Parr, with excellent reputations, but I just can't bring myself to pay their, in my opinion, exorbitent hourly rates, especially bearing in mind that the 911 is basically a very simple piece of, albeit excellent, engineering. There must be a number of bods out there, I jyust need to find one.

hi rod, what part of the se are you in, and how far would you travel. also what do you want doing, body work or mechanics?
i think that the ones that do both are going to be more ££££s

Hi people, thanks for the responses so far. At present there are a number of relatively minor things which need doing, like headlamp washers, electric mirrors, rear wiper etc. which need doing, but which don't really need a Porsche expert to fix. However, there are a couple of other things like the oil pipes which need replacing, which although a bit tricky are hardly hi-tec to do. Most things just need a very competent and concientious motor engineer / mechanic. I'm based in Felbridge, just North of East Grinstead, in Sussex, but for the right bod am happy to travel 50 miles, maybe even farther. Suggestions?

sorry, cant help as to who to goto in the area.
the oil pipes? from front to rear of car or on the engine,if from front to rear under the side cover you are looking at a lot of money, if it is that there are a bit rustybut not leaking just rub down and paint, but leave on car and paint in suit

rear wash wipe and headlight wash, whats happening/ not happening, might be fueses? the headlight wash motor might need to be changed, i did mine in a couple of hours, you need to take off bumper.
mirrors?

You could try Russell Lewis @ RSR Engineering.
Tel 01428 602911 in Grayshott, Surrey

People also speak highly of GT1 in Chertsey, but Russell is an acknowledged expert in 911's of "our vintage". He's listed in PP & he won't rip you off.

Greetings
Try "Ronnocco Porsche", Geoff is a one man band working out of a garage in the corner of someone's garden?. So first impression is a bit sus. but my car has been looked after by him before I bought it and I have spoken to a few people who rate his expertise. And he his NOT vat registered....deep joy.[:D]
Anyway he is based in Chobham, Surrey. Tel:01276-855689.
Good Luck
Alex

Hi Rod

I recommend you talk to Alan or Ken at Autostrasse in Coggeshall, Essex near Braintree- a quick blast round the M25 and up the A12 from your place.. They service my 3.2 and I'm pleased with their work. I think they use a local bodyshop if needed. .

the body shop in in braintree, i had a bit of work there and top job. clark and carter, there is an add in 911 & p world
