Having problems starting a 1986 911ss

It will start when cold and will keep starting until it gets up to temperature
when its run for approx 10 mins and then switched off by the ignition key it will not start again...until it has cooled down.

have check the DME relay...seems to be working fine and have disconected the No 3 temperature sensor and this cause the same problem ....when the car is cold

could it be this....is there anyway of checking it???

oh by the way when it is running, it runs fine and does not miss a beat

initially thought it was the fuel pump...hence checking the DME relay

would be most grateful for any responses
cheers!!

Hi,
This sounds like it could be the flywheel sensors,
I had exactly the same problem with mine, I changed the DME relay but it wasnt that although the symptons are similar.

You can drive the car for a while, if as you say, you let the engine cool down but eventually (and not THAT eventually) the car wont start at all, no matter how much you shout at it!

I was lucky mine conked out just as I was parking it in my garage!
Because I couldnt drive it to my usual place of repair, etc (Camtune) I got Ken from 911 Mobile to come to me to sort it out. It didnt look to me to be a particularly DIY job, but I'm only about a quarter spanner!

Hope this helps,

Cheers Glenn

I had a similar problem on my 1988 Supersport. I found it was one of the relays in the "boot" on the driver's side under the windscreen. For some reasons numerous of my relays began to fail together over a 9 month period. I have since replaced three in that location and the relay under the passenger seat. Since then, no starting or running problems- touch wood!!
