911 track day

I am doing my first trackday in my wifes 1979 Targa. It is completely standard and occasionally I get no brake peddle when I have used the car hard.Anyone have any suggestions as to what mods I could do to so I dont get any surprises at Brands.
Is using road tyres a good idea? Will they be shredded on a trackday?
Any other suggestions would go down well.

I dont know if you have done your trackday yet , but in case not here are some comments :

brakes are crucial and they will be used hard at Brands so pedal going soft will be a major issue.
Sounds like something wrong and probably hydraulic. Change of brake fluid is easiest thing to try, old fluid picks up water which boils off as vapour (gasees out) causing soft pedal. Normally covered by routine service

its winter and cold , I'd be very surprised if you get the tyres hot enough to damage the rubber. If they are well worn road tyres that normally suits track better than new tyres to a point , unless they are so old that rubber has hardened and lost grip.

get an instructor to go round with you , if you never done trackdays before there's a fair bit to learn , and you will definitely need help in getting the lines right.

Its tommorow.Having trawled 4 different forcasts ,I still dont know if its rain or shine.
Im going to take brake fluid with me and change it if I have problems.Im trailering it down for peace of mind.

Well.....Never been to Brands Hatch before. In fact never done a trackday before.
I Used Wifes bog standard Red 1979 911 Targa on normal road tyres.
Car was totally unprepared and I fully expected it to fall to pieces after 3 laps so I trailered it down.

Well I gave it everything and...... I got no brake fade from completely stock brakes , in spite of me trying my hardest,Engine now doesnt smoke when I start it up.Brakes, and engine got better and stronger as the day went by.Even the tyres didnt melt.I did more mileage in it on thursday than its done in the last 10 years.
Certainly blew a few cobwebs out the old girl......in fact I think it did the car the world of good and the reason my wife doesnt drive it is because she was afraid it was unreliable.

It was an open pitlane so I used it all day.I had a passenger with me the whole time who did the stopwatch on his mobile phone bit.It was reading 120 + at the end of the straight and certainly held its own against far newer and better prepared cars......in fact all bar 3 cars had trackday tyres, and half were race cars or dedicated track cars.

I have never been a huge 911 fan but yesterday made me appreciate just how well those Germans engineered the old 911.

Your findings are very similar to what many of us find. 911s seem to absolutely love the track and are positively buzzing on the drive home. It's the German version of the Italian tune-up you know! [:D]

My kettle loved its last trackday and now has a idle speed to be proud of. Shagged the tyres though.
