911E at PCGB trackday - GOODWOOD 15 Nov

Following my first visit at end October , so at least knew which way the track was going to turn this time [:D]

Noise tested at 100db / 4600 rpm , last time was 99 /4500 , must learn to hold right foot steadier ....no problem on this day as was 105 db limit
Car was a bit dirty but still attracted some camera attention - hopefully someone will email me some evidence.
There were maybe 3 'earlier' cars there ie pre impact bumper , not sure if I can claim the Tour de France lantern for being the slowest overall , as were only let out 5 at a time. Was fast in places apparently , passenger saw 110 mph through clenched eyes.....
Passenger duties undertaken by Mel Spear of the 964RS register , thanks for the advice on line Mel.
Engine allowed to pull 7200 rpm in 3rd exiting Lavant , got up to 5th before Woodcote but not 7200....

Will definitely return in 2009 !

Great news John, sounds like you are using like maker intended and having fun along the way!

Catch up with you soon mate,

j

Er whoops , sorry !

Poor ol' bear......[&:]

Just as a comparison, saw Brian nipping 140-145 at the end of the Lavant.....

I was stunned how planted John's old banger felt.[:)]

Thanks for the pix Melv !

I am looking forward to getting out on track in 2009 , its difficult not to go out now but the weather is pretty awful and daylight poor , not a good combo.
Impressions of the car relative to my 964RS :

very surprised at how its noisier , the engine noise is similarly addictive ...aural sex ;

it seems to want to rev higher , I tend not to watch the dials much but have seen 8k revs reached pretty quick when pulling 2nd or even 3rd , feels like max power is 7200 +, so higher up range than the 3.6 twin plug ;

suspension not as stiff but settles into a nice lean if you enter a corner smoothly , which you are encouraged to do on the skinnier tyres , plenty of grip appears to be available from the Pirellis ;

thirstier on fuel ! that surprised me but guess it reflects progress in engine management.

I might go along to Bob Watson in the spring to check out what the power curve is like and get a second opinion on the state of tune as Vic says 2.4S engine should not be lumpy ...but I think this engine is more of a race spec.

when my 2.4S was last on Bobs rollers it had max power at 7120 rpm ( 198bhp) . Mine pulls smoothly except for a small 'cough' when on very light throttle openings .... this is due to a worn MFI pump which is away being rebuilt as we speak ( see my post on DDK )

Interesting to hear how you car compares to the RS ...... I'm thinking about getting a track toy & can't decide wether I'd be happier in a modded early 911, a 3.2 or 964 or wether to go the caterham route

I got the track bug again agter doing Goodwood in my 2.4S not long back [:D]

hi James , the 968 clubsports are good value for track cars , and the 964 C2 is a good basis for turning into a track car , but better to buy one that's already been lightened and stiffened - there's one for sale on PCGB forum. Brakes and suspension better on the later cars. Cheers
