911R at Silverstone Classic

Hi guys,

I went to Silverstone Classic yesterday (Sunday 30th July) and saw a fantastic 911R parked up amongst all the other cars (I actually saw it arrive as I was walking over the bridge).

As this is my favorite Porsche ever I was tempted to leave a note on the windscreen for the owner so I could have a look at the car (and possibly a ride in it). But I decided against it as it I thought it might be considered cheeky and now I regret that decision. I was also worried that as I didn't have my 718 Cayman with me the owner would think I was a bit strange (though I did have my membership card so could prove I was a member of PCGB).

Now this is probably going to be even more cheeky but I would love to meet the owner and have a look around the car if at all possible. It's the first time I've seen one on the road and it would be amazing if I could have a quick ride in one. This is the only place I can speak to an owner of one.

I have contacted the Porsche Experience Centre at Silverstone as I have my 718 Cayman experience booked for August but they won't let me pay for a ride in theirs, saying that the car is only used for people who own one.

I completely understand if the owner doesn't want to introduce himself to me, this is post is probably a bit creepy, but if he does I'd love to speak to him about his car.

The registration plate shows the car was from Hatfield Porsche and started with 'LS** ***'.

If you're the owner and wouldn't mind humoring me with my request I'd really appreciate it, please send me a DM.

Thanks,
Richard.

Hi Richard, there was a 911R parked at the recent 'Car Café 2017' held north of Nottingham (this sponsored by Stratstone I believe). This event is regularly held monthly between April and September. I have never gone to this event, however know someone who goes often at https://www.facebook.com/stratstone/photos/a.1226270517481564.1073741946.107492899359337/1226272980814651/?type=3&theater
So you never know it might the there next month and you could ask the owner in person. Due to the held on the 2nd Sept. https://www.facebook.com/...22action_history%22%3A[%7B%22surface%22%3A%22page%22%2C%22mechanism%22%3A%22main_list%22%2C%22extra_data%22%3A%22%7B%5C%22page_id%5C%22%3A107492899359337%2C%5C%22tour_id%5C%22%3Anull%7D%22%7D]%2C%22has_source%22%3Atrue%7D

Thanks for the heads up, I think I'll go along to that and see if the 911R is there again. It's not the same one but to have a ride in any would just be amazing.

I saw the car at the Car Cafe but didn't get chance to chat to the owner. I kept my eye on the car, waiting for the owner to go back to it, but when he did I was chatting to someone else. By the time I got over to him he'd started the engine and was leaving!!

What a pity you just missed the opportunity [:(]

How was the event? I recall you should have had good weather for the morning. As the event starts at 8:30 it's a bit early for me, also the locality is not ideal. Driving through Nottingham from the SE side is a quite slow process.

I know, I was gutted. I'm not losing hope though, I will get a ride in a 911R... one day!! I even went to the Porsche Experience Centre at Silverstone last week and the instructor I had wasn't allowed to take me out in the one they've got there. But he did give me a passenger ride in a 911 Turbo S (what a machine).

The event was OK. It was mostly Ford RS's, Nissan Skyline's, that sort of thing. I'd say it was more for owners of modded cars than prestige cars. I was parked between a classic Mini Cooper (that was nice) and Citroen C2 (not so nice).

But it was nice to talk to a few different people so I enjoyed it.

You're right, the location isn't the best. I had to navigate around the ring road but as it was so early it wasn't too bad.
