911SC engine upgrades

While I'm wasting time posting messages when I should be working or fettling my neglected SC, I may as well ask if anyone has any tips about 911SC 3.0 engine upgrades (mine's a 1980 188bhp model). I don't want massive power (anything over 200bhp would b a good start) and I can't afford anything too extreme.

Hi there Ian,

Junk the air injection system if it's still fitted. Just requires some blanking plugs to seal the redundant holes left when the air injectors are removed. About 20 quid and a couple of hours labour.

Next i'd fit a free flow exhaust, possibly replacing the pre-silencer with a bypass pipe.

Regards Jon.

After that replace the exhaust and heat exchangers with some from an early 70's 911 there's about 15bhp going to waste in there. I've just got an extremely hot and eagerly anticipated Triad exhaust slowly finding it's way here from the U.S. but there are others more easily available. If you want details of mods or a chat email me and I'll give you my number , I've owned an SC for ever so I know them pretty well.

Only bolt-on items? New cams (964 profile) supposedly work wonder on SCs along with the SSI heat exchangers that Bones mentioned.

Thanks Glasgow 911.

I've read about putting 964 cams in, fitting higher compression pistons (as fitted in the later 204bhp SC - mine missed out by a few months) and SSI's.

Please post what you decide to go for and how you get on, I also have a 1980 SC (188bhp) which I want to upgrade (as per my previous posts about SSI exhausts etc.)unfortunately I have a slight oil leak to sort out first, before any upgrades can come along![:(]
