hiya all, just browsing previous posts and picking up on the 911 "snobbery" comments, just too add my 2pence worth, i was driving along the a127 a couple of weeks ago when looking into my rear view mirror i saw a seal gray 997 c2s moving at a rapid rate, i did the polite thing and moved over to the middle lane, the 997 driver then slowed up so we were side by side then gave me a big thumbs up and a smile and then was gone ,also 911 drivers i have met at our specialist have always been complementary about my baby as i have been about theres, so it appears theres good and bad in most things, porsche ownership included. cheers jason p

I have friends with 911s of all ages (from SC to 997) and many of them started with 944/968 and still hold a lot of affection for them, the 968 especially

I showed a guy in a red 996 who was boss * last weekend! Those things are so slow compared to an S2! [ORIGINAL: Fat Albert

* - I guess this is a pleasure denied to owners of 951's. While there is clearly no snobbery in the world of 944's, it is nice to know which model of car is best, eh? [

Most 911 enthusiasts have also owned a front-engined model, or at least appreciate them. Generally, if it's modern and silver they won't even know you're in a Porsche when you wave or flash them. A gross generalisation, but often true. [&o]

I use the Leicester OPC when i need oil changing/mots/little fixes/parts etc on my 944s these days as they are next door literally to my work, the other day they changed a wheel bearing and steering shaft on my red one so it was in the workshop for a couple of days amidst its modern and more current relatives, the comment i always get when i pick up the car is the amount of nice comments and interest the car generates whilst it is in there,i think the time is coming when people will be plain old nostalgic/curious about the front engined cars and the whole front engine /rear engine thing will just become old news..?

Oi! No, you are correct - it is a gross generalisation, of which this modern, silvery owner is not a part. [ORIGINAL: pauljmcnulty

I am a snob but not when it comes to cars, well apart from beat up old novas etc.
Interestingly in the first two weeks of 944 ownership I have been amazed by the number of comments I have had from people about the car, it is way more than I generally get in the 911. Maybe people think I am more approachable in the 944!
So there we go, want to be ignored go out in the 911, want loads of attention go out in the 944.

The only Porsche drivers I've had any acknowledgement from were an old boy in a nice old 911 and the driver of a black 944S2 Cabriolet - bl**dy typical, the only day I've seen another Cab on the road and I wasn't driving my Cab but at least I was in a 944.
Not a sausage from any other Porsche drivers, not even the driver of a Martini liveried 911 in Manchester who I overtook on the M56!
You can probably guess my view of the rear engined lot is, shall we say, a little jaundiced!
