912s how much

Not really my neck of the woods (at the moment but that may change very soon)

Can I have your thoughts on what the prices I should be paying for mid to late 60's 912s in a TOP (requires next to no work or very minor work i.e. omg the tyres could do with some air) MIDDLE(engine and g/box good, paint alright and needs stuff doing to it but you can live with it in a "i'll get round to it at the weekend" / "it'll be nice when its finished" kind of way, and BOTTOM (as in rough as a badger's arse)

Many thanks in advance

Engin

Here's three for sale at the higher end of the market to give you an idea.

Gavin's your man to speak to.

Your criteria are basically the same as mine when I was looking, seems like prices are on the way up and the 3 that Bootsy posted give a good range. It seems that you'd have to pay around the £10-11K mark for a car in your top bracket. Worth every penny though! As Bootsy says Gavin is the man for advice.

Well the Market in the US is at a bit of a high at the mo. If you do want a good clean car from the US then you are looking at about $8-10K I do still find cars that are $3-4K but need work My best buy was a £1200 one. I think the days of finding these are getting very slim.

But in the UK there are plenty of cars for sale just wait and see. There was a rather nice orange rebuild case on Ebay the other day which looked a nice project car ex Ca

2 options really

1 Buy a nice shiny car and pay top ££$$

2 Buy the best car rust wise for the cheapest price pos and rebuild it.

option 2 is the best as you know what work you have done.

Mark

Thanks all for that.

Mark, where are the best places in the UK to go hunting, I 've looked at a few sites but I'm sure I've missed loads.

Cheers

hmmm if I told you that then it would be no fun any more...

Well 1st you need to say really what you want from the list above

No1 or no2 and let us know what ball park £££ you have in mind. then we wait.

it is a good idea to get a inspection on the car when you do really want to buy. Best see Gav as he has a contact I think. And if you are in a hurry or the buyer is then put down a deposit on the car refundable if the inspection is crap.

As for cars well if you want to buy from Trade then find the adds if Private then start looking Ebay tends to have prices go though the roof So avoid the bidding rush. Ask about and wait.

Now if you had £10000 is h to spend I do know Alex's own Green 912 is for sale Viper Green. I do know Alex and I am not trying to sell the car for him or getting anything out of it. But what I do know is (he is like me we like the early 356's) Alex thought he would not be able to find a good 356 Pre-A so he rebuilt this Green 912 as his own and did a nice job still has a few small bits to do. It does I think still have the stock 1600 engine. As long as they have not been taken out a few nice bits on the car. Like the Polished wheels etc So it's worth a look aleast then you can see what is what and were your money goes.

After this then you could always post a wanted add in the papers or internet.

Now I have to be careful I have a 912E that I will be selling in a few months I want to rebuild the engine on my 69 and still have a 912 to run about in while I do all the work. The problem is I might just like the comforts of the E too much and want to keep it. Leather 911 Seats in black , Black paint work and Polished Fusch wheels and Air con..... No you can't have it I want to keep it now...[:D][:D]

Any way have a look about and ask questions here as you go I am sure before long you can find a car.

Mark

Hi Engin
Feel free to ring me and chat this through, there are many things to lengthy to discuss in a post.
My number is in the Post... I'm in now, I see you are online... 12.13 wed 25th

We just had a long chat about it all and i think Gav he not just going to buy the 1st car he see's. We spoke of a car we both know for sale in the US at the mo.

Might be worth getting one of the 912 reg boys to take a look or pay some one to look it over. The car looks ok and has most of the right bits but I still think it is priced alittle high but it's a case of pays your money or walk away.

Ok you went offline [:D]

Please feel free to ring though...

There are two main types of buyer and therefor two price tiers. Those who have knowledge and get their cars inspected and those who like the look of 'that shiny Porssha and it's a 912 which is better than a 911 right?'.

I would suggest:

£1000 - £5000 tatty cars with dubious history, rusty with engines about to go pop

£5000 - £8000 average car with minor niggles

£8000 - £10000 good car well sorted, all bits done, very good order mechanically and bodywise

£10,000 and above needs to be something very special, I would expect a recently rebuilt engine / gbox, great interior, superb paint, loads of history, a real beut, these are few and very far between.

add £2-3k on top of these for a car sold to a 'shiny porschaa' person.

A good gearbox rebuild £500 - £2000 depending what needs doing
A good Engine rebuild £3000 - £7000+ depending on spec and what needs doing

ABOVE ALL GET A PPi!!!

Have a look at the buyers guide on our Register site
Buy Duane Spencers book (see website)

and give me a ring, I know of some good cars...

Welcome to the fold!

I can't wait to get the 1720 or 80 power in my 912 but I think the 912 with a shasta set up is about right alround.
