Hi All,

Would anyone care to share their opinions / experiences with regards the 915' box? I have only ever driven 911's with the G50 'box and I was hoping to get some insight before taking the plunge and buying a car with a 915 'box fitted.

Thanks in advance

if you're near north cornwall you're welcome to try mine. never driven a G50 so couldn't compare them for you i'm afraid.

thank you both for the very kind offer to try them out - unfortunately i live in singapore these days so it's a bit far!

no, sorry! i'm not a very good potential buyer!

yes, you're right it is RHD here... but, i'm afraid you can only import cars under three yearrs old into singapore - otherwise i would have brought my '86 3.2 with me!! and even then you have to pay about 246% tax on them!!

you can also bring in cars older than 35 years - but you can only drive these 28 days a year... i don't have the will power for that!

I have driven both. My current car is a 915 (early) but im upgrading to a G50. The latter is structurally stronger gearbox and can take more BHP and IMHO has a better gear change.

The advantage of the 915 is that its lighter and takes less power to drive it as compared to the G50.

I have both g50 and 915 boxed cars ,and have driven plenty of others , they vary imensely , i would suggest if you are looking to buy a car with either type of gearbox in , try it and see how it feels to you . What some one descibes as the perfect change may not meet your expectations , and which car you drive day to day will have an influence to.
Don't belive all you read in the magazines !

I have both.

G50, with hydraulic clutch, is a noticeable step forward and a very nice easy to use gearbox.

915 has more character. You need to think about your changes a bit more and it can't be rushed (so doesn't really suit 'short shift ' kits). Providing the gearbox is in good order, and the selector linkages are correctly adjusted, it should be fine. IMO the 915 suits the earlier cars and is much easier to use in lhd 911s.
