Dismantled the transmission linkage today ,to fit new nylon bushes.I found that the tip of the shifter rod is loose. This slots into a fitting, which in turn connects to the bottom of the gear stick. As the tip actually fits inside the rod ,I reckon i can re secure it if I can remove the rod.So my question is how do I get the rod out of the tunnel.Any suggestions welcome.

Not 100% sure on this but I think you will need to:
Probably remove seats
Remove tunnel rear cover, which should expose shift rod boot and clamp
Push back boot and loosen clamp and push rod off the coupling
Remove rod assembly
There is a procedure for re-allignment of this assembly to ensure proper gear selection.
There is a lot of useful info on the Pelican parts web site, technical articles, forums etc. which might be worth reading first.

Hi Geoff,
Sorry i failed to mention ,that I've already disconnected the rod ,where it is clamped, under the rear access panel between the seats. So basically the long piece of shifter linkage is now free at both ends.[ think I may have referred to this before as the shift rod]. If I can get it out i can repair it?
I've checked your pelican links geoff , unfortunately they only advise on adjustment not removal.
Thanks.

Ah, you may not like this but it looks like you'll have to drop the engine and tranny.
However see this link where you'll find an alternative solution!! from forum member called "gearbox"

Thanks geoff,I kinda thought that would be the case. That long piece of linkage must be put in place before the engine and transmission are offered up.I just thought if i can get it in a vice I could do a nice job on it.But none the less even in situ i should still be able to get a more than decent job done.Four tack welds on the circumference should be more than enough to hold it for good and eliminate the play.Cheers
