924 2.0 Stainless Exhaust

Hello all.

My 1983 924 is newly road legal after a long lay up, but it still needs a new exhaust and I understand a stainless Dansk is the way to go,
I'm after a fresh stainless exhaust for it. If anyone has sections for sale (or a whole system!) for a good price I would be happy to consider it.
Otherwise what companies offer a great deal?

Regards.

I have a new unused ANSA centre silencer available-also a complete centre & rear silencer used but in reasonable condition having had a stiffening plate added to brace the rear box to the input pipe-with the rear box having an oval tailpipe with polished trim
Neither are stainless steel.
However I live in Formby near Southport & some carriers are a bit stuffy about car parts .

Thanks for that ,John-TBH-I don't know whether a 924S Dansk SS rear box & pipe can be easily made to fit a 924 front system-it comes with a 3 bolt coned flange to fit the centre box but these things can be cut off & a sleeve joint made & one can buy stepped adaptors.
The last Dansk I bought for the red car cost £145 inc vat at ECP so anything else if it can fit is a no brainer .

I've looked at the ECP website and it didn't come up with anything, Maybe it's one of those items where you need to go into the branch to get what you want, then again the forum posts that last namechecked ECP and exhausts are from 2005!

On a different (exhaust) note - can you fit a stainless back box onto a mild steel middle section?

I think if you search for a Dansk back section for a 924S,they list one but you need a reg no to search.
The centre silencer I have has a sleeve connection at the front with the usual coned rear connection-this would likely fit with the Dansk 924S silencer but all depends on lengths ie.where the joint occurs.

I have a trade a/c with ECP-they will quote you a price when you ring up with a reg no,then negotiate at the counter when you pick up before they get too far with the computer system..
Also the middle support bracket may need moving along the torque tube & the slotted holes on the hanger bracket at the rear of the silencer elongated to avoid the centre pipe (even though it comes with a flattened section) hitting the torque tube.

The other option would be to have one fabricated such as Hayward and Scott. I had one on my 944 from a previous owner and was still good after 8 years of my use.

Paul-I'll try & find my last Invoice -& give you the part no-I'm going to need one for my wife's car in the near future as at 105K miles the original rear silencer is on it's last legs although only part of the silencer seam is opening -might be able to repair it for a while to pass the MOT in 2 weeks time.

Thinks to myself-"This must be one of the longest threads on the 924 forum for some time"[:)]

Great news that your 924 is close to getting back on the road, Paul - maybe try calling Frazerpart (0151 665 0911) and ask Max?

Right ,found the Invoice-dated 18.05,2015:- ECP PART NO-705330140 -described as :-REAR BOX 944/924S 2.5 82-88

List price £227.89 - net price £117.00 plus VAT = £140.40-that was for D476 FYM-1987 924S-ordered for next day collection. at Liverpool
Branch.
It came in a large long box branded Dansk.-no joint olive with it as I re-used the existing one,no bolts either .

Was chatting to Max a couple of weeks ago-his portfolio /web offer is certainly growing-great guy-very helpful.

Hello all, thanks for your help, I rang Frazerpart but they couldn't help, and thank you vitesse but I have managed to order a stainless Dansk rear box and mild centre section from Eurocarparts for £179.79, they are being made for me apparently for delivery in 2 to 3 weeks.

I hope the Dansk works out. They have a tendency to fail mine lasted 2 years before the silencer cracked open. Others have lasted less than 3 months.
