924/944?

I've seen a car advertised as a 924S but it maybe a 944.
Is it possible to differentiate them from the chassis number etc?

924S has same engine as 944, easy to tell by looking 944 has wide arches 924 doesn't. I suppose you could fit 944 arches to a 924, then I would think the chassis numbers are different, but dont have the info to hand.
Telling between a 924s and a 924 is harder the body is the same, but the engines look very different the S engine has Porsche cast into the cam cover.

Basically, after the WPOZZ for Porsche:

a 924 will begin with 924xxxxxxx
a 944 will begin with 94xxxxxxxx
and a 924S does not have any numeric prefix before it launches into the year letter and then car number

Is it the black one on ebay ?? if it is then its a 924s as on an 88 model the 944 has the oval dash and also the early style dash would have yellow clocks on a 944 not red/white as fitted to the 924. Maybe its been re-shelled in to a 944 body at some point ??
