924/944's in Practical classics

There's a sweet 944 cab in PC this month. Very nice little one page article. Anyone here at all?

Oh, and get this, one of the regulars has a 924 he's getting rid of because "of the increase in petrol prices"! [8|] I always thought Audi engines were quite economical........ [;)]

You wonder how people like that get into car magazines. I have always considered Practical Classics as written by bearded gentlemen with pipes and glasses, wearing army surplus brown overalls or brown shop coats. The cloth cap is a must.

I did buy a Practical Classics several years ago when it had a 944 buys guide. It was actually very good.

My Dad has a subscription (it's handy when you own a TR8 for the classifieds!). John, you certainly are spot on about the impression you get about the contributors. I reckon they use archive photos on some of the owners! [:D]

Why would any car enthusiast worry about the price of petrol [8|]

Have you seen the cost of Evian? Its 80p a litre at Tescos [] (if you buy 750ml bottles)

Hmm - my '79 used to give about 23 round town and over 30 on a longer run.
present 924S gives about 24/5 round town and as long as I keep to the speed limit ,cough> don't we all ? - over 30 on a run, best ever was closer to 35 mpg.

I think my Turbo will still do 25+ on a run. By run I mean 85-90 on the motorway. I think it can also compete with Rick's Rangie under the right circumstances though.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]Anyhow I digress. A month or two ago Retro Cars did a 924 buyer's guide and one of the staff writers was so impressed he has now bought one as a daily driver.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]PC is a good read but I don't get it regularly. I prefer Classic and Sportscar to be honest if I buy anything about real classics. I get Retro Cars every month though because it's written by people just like me.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

Is that a good thing or a bad thing? And what are people just like you like Fen?[:D][:D][:D][:D][:D]

he he! You'll have to excuse me Mark. I don't like to go to any areas on web boards marked "general" (or similar) after spending time in the depths of hell that is Rennlist OT ! [:D]

[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]I suspect quite possibly someone such as your good self.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]I consider myself a petrolhead but the more time passes the less interested I am in new cars, but I'm not fussed by anything pre-60's. I also like proper modifying. Proper as opposed to sticking horns on the roof and a snowplough on the front of a shopping trolley with a 1.1 litre engine.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

Guilty as charged. I was saying pretty much the same thing to Belinda yesterday and concluded, if the opportunity arose, the only new car I'd really like is an Aston Martin, although I might modify that to include a GT2, 3 or Turbo. The conversation was much on the lines of Beaky may cost the earth but there isn't really any other car I want - you will appreciate that he is running well at the moment, a few weeks ago I'd have swapped him for an ST220 without much hesitation.

Shall I break the bad news to Alan that you don't want his 964RS then ? [:D] [:D]

Bought this mag today as a result of this thread - not a bad little article but didn't agree with the price range - £2400-£7000 - surely thats for the regular 944s2 and not the cab?

I think Practical Classics is a great mag - i get it almost every month. I think i started getting it in my days as a Citroen 2cv owner, but i have never owned a cloth cap !

i think that one of the writers has a blue 924 - there was an article in the staff saga column recently
