924 buyers guide/pointers

It looks a bit quiet on the 924 pages so I thought I'd ask you lot.
Any particular 924 idiosyncrasies over and above a 944 (its an 87 S)

Do they have sill vents I can take out and look down? Presumably rust is the main issue and fixing sills properly will be as much of an issue as it is for a 944.

Mechanically - clutch, starter wiring, lights etc all seem to be mentioned.

Anything else?

Cheers

David

Hi David,

Yes, vent inside door shut just like 944, pops out easily. look out for cracked dashboard top - around windscreen vents. Not the end of the world, as a high proportion have probably got some by now, depends how perfect you need it to be. The fuel tank was steel on the older 924 - don't know if plastic was used by '87. If steel, look for rust where the support straps can trap moisture against the tank. Oh, and the hard fuel lines can corrode where they pass over the back axle. Don't be put off though, they're great cars and after 23 years there's always going to be something....

As an 87 924S is essentially a narrow bodied 944 then you are pretty much looking for the same pros and cons.

You are right that the 924 section is quiet which is why I spend some time here.

924's never had plastic fuel tanks, so look for corroded fuel lines over the off side inner side.

924's have same under tray lay out as the 924, as it goes the 924 will always look better, lightweight sexy version of the fat boy 944!!
