924 Carrera GT Prototype

Hi, does anyone have any information about a white CGT prototype (the first one - reg FYT 353V) which failed to sell at Bonhams auction in September (although another website seems to suggest it sold for circa £30k) but is now currently for sale at £19.5k.

I am interested in buying this and the seller/ history / provenance/history seems tip-top. The engine number is 31500001 which from my research stacks up. The chassis number is not one of the 406 CGT's but this makes sense as it was a pre-production prototype registered in Germany in 1979. What I'm struggling with is why this car is still for sale - circa £18k for a car like this seems very cheap and I'm suprised it hasnt been snapped up by a Porsche enthusiast ?

Any comments, gratefully received

Regards

Anthony

It is an amazing package, -as anyone who drove a standard 924CGT can confirm-, but it is not a 911....

Moreover, prototypes are really something for an aficionado or a collector, rather than an enthusiast: after all, it was a development model and where do you start for queries and research to keep your car "original" as a prototype?

HTH,

Bert

The car isnt a development prototype in the accepted sense, as far as Im aware (if youre talking about the pearlescent white car?). I believe that Porsche used the car on displays at motor shows and such and whilst it wasnt exactly the same as the production vehicles; it was far closer to a production car than a usual prototype or development hack and it was fully trimmed and finished (from memory it has a cut off centre console similar to a GT-S, a standard 924 steering wheel, 911 leather sports bolsters and windy windows).

Id be extremely interested if I still had this sort of money to spend on a car.

Have you seen it? Interior a little shot had a recent respray, was allegedly firing on 3 pots when I arrived, then the chap was a dealer selling privately. I think he has amended the ad now.

He has a picture of it at a show ... was it The Frankfurt Show? .... he did not know, I would think this would be a key to selling it ....

Agree with above sentiments .... but one more question

He is a dealer shipping cars Worldwide ... Why can't he sell this special LHD in Germany himself where it would have far more appeal? Particulalrly with the exchange rate .... that's were he should be marketing it, many more collectors over the Channel.

The single harness belts were interesting .......
