924 Championship 1978 help wanted

Hi All,
I am trying to trace any magazine articles, photos, posters or any other info about the 1978 924 championship races and in particular any info about the car which won the championship driven by Tony Dron and entered by my local Porsche Dealer at that time, Gordon Ramsey. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards, Baz (new to forum)

Hello Baz

Tony Dron was a big name so I sure we should be able to turn up something.

Welcome to the forum [:)]

The car was bought and restored by a chap in the Newcastle area many years ago... he and his son were members of the North East Porsche Drivers Club and attended regularly. His name was John Anderson. Sadly John died suddenly not long after completing the restoration. His son, I believe hung on to the car and I recall an article in some magazine (Classic Cars maybe?) - where the car and Tony Dron were reunited.
I'm sorry I can't remember anything else at the moment. Do you know where the car is now? Would love to know what happened to it. It's restoration really was a labour of love by John.

BTW - Porsche dealership was 'Gordon Ramsay Ltd.'. The other spelling might return fewer hits if you are using the Internet for research.(?)

Hi Colin,

Thanks for the info about John, I now have a copy of the article in Classic Cars. There is also a photo of Tony driving the car at Snetterton which appears in many books.

The reason for trying to find as much info as possible is that I have just become the proud owner of the actuall car.

Best regards, Barry

That's great news Barry! Any pictures you can share? Where did you manage to find the car?
Are you still living in the North East? It would be great to see the car again after all these years.
Would love to know more.

Hi Colin,

I live in Hebburn, South Tyneside, I found the car locally where it had been stored since 1999. It passed its MOT only needing a new rear wheel cylinder. However the paintwork has deteriated while in storage and the nearside wing has been replaced and now does not have the coloured stipes or decals. I do have the original wing so should be able to copy the paintwork. I have attached a current photo.

Best regards, Barry

Thanks for the photo, I like the stripes, very bold.
I'm glad you have unearthed it and can give it a bit of tlc.

We will try to help you out with any problems you might have.

Oh it's good to see that car again. :) Brings back a lot of good memories. If ever you come to sell it, give me first shout?

Any chance you might bring it along to one of the local meetings?
