924 extended wheel bolts.

Hi all,
I know I am not a regular poster on this forum, but I have been a club member for six years. I need some help locating some wheel bolts for a 924. These aren't ordinary wheel bolts, they are the ones used to fit the 4 stud Le Mans(turbo type) wheels to 924 n/a. These bolts are very long, due to the thickness of the wheel hub. The size is M14-1.5p x 70 m/m, and the Porsche part number is - 477 601 139C. I have accquired a good set of wheels and tyres but need a full set of bolts to fit them.
All help gratefully received.
Regards,
Paul Webster.

Have you tried the OPCs? I have definitely bought new Le Mans wheel bolts within the last three years. You could also try looking in P/P and enquire at the numerous Porsche salvagers, or even try Ebay. Often people advertise a whole car for spares quoting in their ads "do not bid auction is for a wheel bolt". How ironic would it be if you went in persuit of one.
A good tip is to sparingly apply a good quality copper-based grease to the threads and the mating flanges of the wheel and hub to aid subsequent removal by helping to prevent corrosion caused by the excess levels of salt on the roads at this time of year.
Good hunting.

Hi,
I phoned the local OPC yesterday, you can still get the bolts but they are £10.05 + VAT each, but they said they could probably lose the VAT. That still makes it £160.80 for a full set. The wheels and tyres look in good condition, but I wanted to try the wheels on the car, to make sure they are OK before getting them re-furbed. So £160.80 is a lot of money to just try the wheels. These bolts are rarer than the proverbial rocking horse ****, so breakers either don't want to know, haven't got any, or will only sell with a full set of wheels. I have found a breaker in Leicester that is sending me 3 bolts(hopefully), only another 13 to go!
Regards,
Paul.

I have a set of refurbed Le Mans wheels on one of my red 924s and they look so much better than the 8 spoke alloys, imho. What do you mean by see if they are alright? Are you worreid about them being buckled?

Hi,
These wheels were listed on Ebay as excellent condition, with virtually new tyres. In reality(as always), they looked basically sound, but were absolutely filthy. Inside the rims was full of dirt(approx. 10 m/m thick of soil/earth.) This made me think the wheels had been used on a rally car of some sort. After travelling 140 miles to pick them up, I thought I would risk them! There's no kerbing on the outside of the wheel rim, but there is SMALL amounts of kerbing on the inside of the rim, (maybe putting a rally car on a trailer, or hitting boulders on a stage). So they look basically sound, but I want make sure, before spending another £150 getting them re-furbed.
Just to rub salt into the wound, The PERSON that I bought them off, won't leave me any feedback, even though I left him Positive feedback the same day, and I have reminded him twice.
Paul.
