924 Limited Editions

Paul, I would be very interested to know how many examples of the various limited editions the Club is aware of.

As you know, I have 2 Martinis and an '88 Le Mans and I would like to know how many others of each are known to the Club. Also how many '80 Le Mans are known and if any examples of the other limited editions not officially imported (Sebring, Weissach, etc.) are known to be in the UK.

Hello Tim,

How are you[:)]. I have a 1980 le mans being restored. I'm looking at the photos of your car in the guide by Peter Morgan as a reference for restoration.

Hi Sean

The 924 Le Mans is currently in my garage without an MOT ... just haven't got around to it yet :0( Road Tax is due soon, so unless I SORN it, I'll need to get one. I don't expect there will be any problems passing the MOT ... fingers crossed

Pleased to see that someone is actually reading the Book with my car in it :0)

What are you restoring on it? Full Respray? I looked in to that, bit pricey, more than the car is worth unfortunately. Hopefully one day I'll have spare cash to throw at it :0)

Cheers

Tim

Hello Tim,

Nice car, your 924 Le Mans.

I have just done a full engine service changing the oil, brake fluid, compression test etc etc. The bodywork is in perfect condition, just needs a full clean and wax. Unfortunately the interior is in need of a full refurb. So I'll be replacing the immaculate interior from my other 924 le mans and putting it into the 1980 car. Should be ready for the Porsche Club GB show this summer.

Hi Sean

Yes, my interior is showing its age too. Passenger seat is split and worn down the seam. You can't buy the cloth anymore either. I think Southbound do something similar (slightly wider stripe) but it means doing the whole car, not just the seats (so need to do the door panels as well).

The paintwork has aged a bit since the photos in the book (thats got to be ten years ago?). White is a good colour for not showing blemishes:0)

Engine has done 135K .... and it started first time at the weekend (thought I'd better start it)

I expect I'll get the wheels done at some point as well

Its just cash at the end of the day

Our cars are getting rarer .. so one day it might be worth the outlay.

Guess I won't be Concoursing my car against yours anytime soon :0)

Cheers
Tim

Your car was the car that I always wanted for my 1st Posrche, so to me no matter what your car looks like, it will always be better than mine.

I'm currently breaking down my 1984 924 with an immaculate pinstripe interior including the door panels, seat carpet etc etc. If this will help just let me know. I think that very soon the 924 ltd editions will be very collectable. Perhaps not in the 911 league but netherless collectable in their own right. If you need help with the wheels I can do those for you as I have restored mine. Very easy to do.

I have a 1980 Le Mans, only 28k miles from new! Mint interior, she is lovely...sat in garage for the winter!!

Sounds a great car ... 28K miles ..... barely run in :0)

My Le Mans was my first Porsche, and only my second car ever :0)

How did it get to keep such a low mileage?

Bought her from a gentleman who bought it for his wife new in 1980, they then stopped driving it after a couple of years due to a combination of age and no power steering etc. They then gave it to their son who left it in a barn! he put it on ebay 3 years ago so i bought it!! Fantastic car, never lets me down, beautiful in all respects.

There was only 100 RHD cars .... if you buy anymore there will be none left for anyone else

:p[:D]

I suffer from an incurable disease. I think I need help.

I got the chassis number from the seller and it is a genuine Le Mans. I might buy it for the right price.

If its the 1980 Le Mans, Reg ESC? I used to own it but could not get it going. The current owner who bought it from me has got it sorted. The bodywork on the whole is fine, sunroof needs new seal. The interior is not too bad, just the drivers seat. Woul make a good runner for the right price....i thought about buying it back now he has fixed it!!
I have also been looking at the 1988 924s Le Mans on ebay, £3000...in white, very rare, would look great next to my white 1980 Le Mans....decisions decisions, marriage, house, ummmm

Mark

I have 5 confirmed 1980 LeMans models on record plus 14 confirmed 1988 Le Mans models listed on my database.

[8|]

Not many on record. Thats suprising... I wonder how many are out there that are not on record.

Intresting[:)]

In the book 'Porsche Engineering for Excellence' by Tony Dron rates them as 'the better and rarer 924'. Which he writes as 'probably forgotten'. (This is the 1980 Le Mans car) and the 924S Le Mans as 'a very good car'.
